It is famous for the relatively complete Peking Man fossils unearthed in the twenties of this century, especially the discovery of the first Peking Man skull in 1929, which provided a solid foundation for the existence of Peking Man and became a milestone in the history of paleoanthropology.
So far, the human fossils unearthed include 6 skulls, 15 mandibles, 157 teeth and a large number of bone fragments, representing about 40 Peking Man individuals. It provides a physical basis for the study of the early biological evolution of human beings and the development of early culture. According to the study of cultural sediments, Peking Man lived between 700,000 and 200,000 years ago.
The average brain size of a Peking man is 1088 milliliters (1400 for modern humans), and it is estimated that the height of a Peking person is 156 cm (male) and 150 cm (female). Peking people belong to the Stone Age, and the method of processing stone tools is mainly hammering, followed by smashing, and occasionally anvil hammering. Peking Man was also the first ancient human to use fire and was able to hunt large animals.
The life expectancy of Beijingers is shorter, according to statistics, death before the age of 14, more than 50 years old. In 1930, the fossils of ancient humans who lived around 20,000 years ago were excavated at the top of Dragon Bone Mountain, and they were named "Cave Man". In April 1973, the "New Cave People" between the two eras were discovered, indicating the continuation and development of the Peking people.
