"Momei" is a seven-character quatrain composed by the Yuan Dynasty poet Wang Mian. The first two sentences of this poem directly describe Momei, and the last two sentences praise Momei's high wind and bright festival, praising Momei for not asking for praise, but only wanting to leave a fragrant virtue in the world, in fact, using Mei as a metaphor to express his attitude towards life and the noble sentiment of not flattering the world. The whole poem is exquisitely conceived, light and flavorful, straight and curved, and full of fresh and elegant atmosphere.
This poem was composed during the ninth to tenth years of the reign of Emperor Yuan Shun (1349-1350). Wang Mian returned to Shaoxing after a long roaming, and bought land and built a house in Huiji Jiuli Mountain, named Plum Blossom House, and called himself the owner of Plum Blossom House. This poem was written in the Plum Blossom House.
At this time, on the eve of the outbreak of the peasant uprising at the end of the Yuan Dynasty, the author wrote this poem with emotion in the face of unsolvable contradictions in real life.
My family washes the inkstone pond tree, and the flowers bloom with light ink marks.
Don't let people praise the color, only leave the air full of goodness.
A plum blossom that grows by the inkstone pond seems to be the traces left by the light ink after washing the pen without bright colors.
It doesn't need to be praised for its color, it just cares about filling the light fragrance between heaven and earth.
This poem praises the virtue of Momei not asking for praise, but only wishing to leave a fragrance in the world, which is actually a metaphor for Mei to express her attitude towards life and her noble sentiment of not flattering the world.
The first two sentences "My family washes the inkstone pond tree, and the flowers bloom with light ink marks" directly describe Momei. The plum trees by the small pond in the painting are in full bloom, and the plum blossoms are dyed with a touch of ink. "Washing the inkstone pool" uses Wang Xizhi's allusion of "learning books in the pond, and the pool water is black".
The third and fourth sentences praise the high wind and bright festival of Momei. It is painted in light ink, although the appearance is not delicate, but it has the inner temperament of clear bones, noble and dignified, and secluded and super-elegant; It doesn't want to use bright colors to attract people, please people, and seek people's praise, but only wants to exude a fragrance and let it stay between heaven and earth. These two lines are the poet's self-portrayal.
Wang Mian was poor since he was a child, herding cattle during the day, and studying hard under the lamp of the Buddhist temple at night, and finally learned to be full of economy, and he was good at poetry and painting, and was versatile. But he tried repeatedly, and he didn't want to tie up with the powerful, so he was desperate for fame and fortune, and returned to Jiuli Mountain in eastern Zhejiang, painting Yimi for a living. The two sentences "Don't let people praise the good color, only leave the pure air full of goodness" show the poet's character of despising and vulgarity, being good to himself, and not seeking meritorious service.
In this poem, one "light" and one "full" show their personality, on the one hand, the richness of Momei and the image of the poet's pride leap onto the page; On the other hand, it makes people feel that the fragrance of ink and plum blossoms seems to be blowing in the face. So that the "poetry", "painting", and personality are skillfully integrated together, with realm, courage, light and flavor, straight and curved, which is unique in the yuan poem.
