Wang Ju has been engaged in the research of geological disposal of high-level radioactive waste for nearly 30 years, and he has made a series of innovative achievements in the planning and research of geological disposal of high-level radioactive waste, site selection and site evaluation methods, engineering barrier research, underground laboratory planning and preliminary work. He proposed a new concept and new technology idea of "site-specific underground laboratory" for the geological disposal of high-level radioactive waste. He led the team to carry out long-term research in the Gobi Desert in Northwest China, and selected Beishan in Gansu Province as the preferred pre-selection area for high-level radioactive waste disposal in China, and selected the new site in Beishan, Gansu Province as the site of the underground laboratory for high-level radioactive waste geological disposal in China, and proposed the overall design of the underground laboratory. A technical system for the evaluation of high-level radioactive waste geological disposal sites has been established, and a number of key technologies have been broken through in the evaluation of granite site characteristics of high-level radioactive waste repositories. He presided over the design and completion of the first batch of deep boreholes for the evaluation of high-level radioactive waste disposal sites in China, and found a new site with a very complete rock mass and excellent engineering rock mass quality in the pre-selection area of Beishan, Gansu Province through ground investigation and deep borehole confirmation. With the support of the Bureau of Science, Technology and Industry for National Defense, the first batch of research and development facilities for geological disposal of high-level radioactive waste in China have been built; It has developed technical cooperation with the United Nations International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), the European Union and France, Sweden, Finland, Germany and other countries in the field of geological disposal of high-level radioactive waste.
Wang Ju has pioneered the research field of geological disposal of high-level radioactive waste in China, and obtained a number of evaluation technologies and methods with independent intellectual property rights. He has presided over and completed more than 20 national, provincial and ministerial level and international cooperation projects, won 1 first prize and 3 second prizes of national defense science and technology, 1 first prize and 1 second prize of CNNC science and technology award, and published 5 books and more than 70 articles.
On May 10, 2017, CNNC held the 2017 Science and Technology Work Conference in Beijing. The meeting commended the winners of the 4th "Qian Sanqiang Science and Technology Award", and Wang Ju, vice president of our institute, won this honor. "Qian Sanqiang Science and Technology Award" is the highest award for the scientific and technological achievements of CNNC, which is used to commend scientific and technological workers with outstanding contributions.
Wang Ju won this award, which is not only a summary and affirmation of his own work achievements, but also an encouragement to the scientific research team of high-level radioactive waste geological disposal and all scientific research workers of the Institute of Nuclear and Geogeological Research. In the context of the in-depth implementation of the innovation-driven development strategy and the comprehensive acceleration of scientific and technological innovation of the group company, all scientific research workers of the Institute will further improve their understanding of the importance and urgency of scientific and technological innovation, dare to take responsibility and innovate, continuously enhance their own and overall scientific and technological innovation capabilities, and strive to make outstanding contributions to the construction of a nuclear power.
