After struggling for the first few years, the Jazz became a regular in the playoffs from the '80s, and from 1983 to 2002, they surpassed 50 percent in the regular season every year, making the playoffs for 19 consecutive years. The Jazz reached the Finals twice in 1997 and 1998, but both times lost to Jordan's Bulls.
The Jazz have been able to maintain a solid record over the years, mainly because of the stability of the roster. Malone and Stockton are their duo over the years. In 1984, the Jazz selected John Stockton with the 1st and 6th overall picks, and in 1985 they selected Malone at the 13th pick, and the two became the backbone of the Jazz team since then, and they are credited with the Jazz's two Finals appearances in the 90s.
After nearly 10 years of working together, the two finally reached their peak in the 1996-1997 season. The Jazz meet the Eastern Conference champion Bulls as the first in the West. But in the face of the Bulls, who were in full swing, they ended their first Finals 2-4.
In the 1997-98 season, the Jazz made it to the Finals, but in front of the great basketball god Jordan, the Jazz came home again, and the Flyers hit the famous shot.
