What is "Catia's thumbnail message"? Does it refer to the thumbnail of a file like catpart, catproduct, etc.? This doesn't need a CAA API (it's impossible to open it at all), just use the Windows API, it should be a shell extension, find a platformsdk documentation to see.

It makes sense that I've also found that the Automation API (C++) and the CAA C++ API can't be mixed, because the objects of Automation are integrated with the features of the COM object.
