Industrial Enterprises Scientific Research and Design Units Regional Dispatched AgenciesShanghai Shipbuilding Industry Company, Guangzhou Shipbuilding Industry Company, Jiujiang Shipbuilding Industry Company Shareholding Enterprises Affiliated UnitsOther Enterprises and Institutions China Shipbuilding Industry Corporation (CSSC) was established on July 1, 1999, and is a super-large enterprise group directly managed by the State and an investment institution authorized by the state. CSSC is the main force of China's shipbuilding industry, and has gathered a number of China's most powerful backbone shipbuilding and repair enterprises, ship research and design institutes, ship supporting enterprises and ship foreign trade companies, with a total of about 60 wholly-owned and shareholding enterprises and institutions. Shipbuilding is the main business of CSSC.
In terms of military ships, the products developed by CSSC cover almost all the main combat ships and military auxiliary ship equipment of the Chinese Navy, and are the backbone of China's naval equipment construction. On the part of civilian ships. CSSC is capable of constructing modern vessels that meet the specifications of any classification society in the world, meet the requirements of common international technical standards and safety conventions, and are seaworthy in any sea area.
The products range from ordinary oil tankers, bulk carriers to chemical tankers, ro-ro passenger ships, large container ships, large liquefied gas carriers, large self-unloading ships, high-speed ships, liquefied natural gas carriers, ultra-large oil tankers (VLCC) and marine engineering and other civil ships and facilities, and the ship's products have been exported to more than 50 countries and regions. In the new century, CSSC put forward the "531" goal, that is, on the basis of entering the "top five" and "top three" of the world's shipbuilding groups in the year, and after five years of efforts, strive to become the world's first shipbuilding group by 2015, so as to promote China to become the world's largest shipbuilding power. In order to achieve this goal, CSSC will focus on the construction of CSSC Changxing Shipbuilding Base and CSSC Longxue Shipbuilding Base.
By 2015, the shipbuilding capacity will be increased from the current 4 million tons to 14 million tons, and the products cover liquefied natural gas (LNG) ships, luxury cruise ships and other high-tech ships. While expanding and strengthening the main shipbuilding business, CSSC actively develops and expands non-ship businesses such as ship repair, marine supporting and steel structure. At present, CSSC has entered more than 20 industries such as shipping, aerospace, construction, electric power, petrochemical, water conservancy, environmental protection, metallurgy, railway, light industry, etc., forming a number of key products such as containers, large steel structures, metallurgical equipment, land diesel units, pressure vessels, and B ultrasound.
CSSC's diversified operation has involved the fields of shipping, finance, real estate, bridge construction and other fields, and has developed into a large-scale enterprise group that dominates China's shipbuilding industry and develops rapidly in many industries.

China State Shipbuilding Corporation (CSSC), China Shipbuilding Industry Corporation (CSIC), Fujian Shipbuilding Industry Corporation (FSGIC); Shipyards affiliated to COSCO Group; Sino-foreign joint venture shipbuilding enterprises, including Sino-Japanese Nantong COSCO Kawasaki Shipbuilding, Sino-German Shanghai Edward Shipbuilding, Sino-Korean Samsung Ningbo Shipyard; Shipyards belonging to the Navy, including and Plant 4810.
CSSC and CSIC production currently accounts for about 60-70% of China's total shipbuilding tonnage.
China is building new modern shipyards while increasing the production capacity of existing ones, which is highly valued. During the "Ninth Five-Year Plan" (1996-2000), ** approved the establishment of a super-large-scale modern shipyard in Shanghai (Shanghai Waigaoqiao Shipbuilding). The shipyard has the most advanced shipbuilding facilities and equipment in China, including 2 large dry docks, multiple giant cranes and a straight phased assembly line, and adopts a computer-aided design and management system.
The shipyard's maximum annual production capacity will reach 1.8 million DWT after the completion of the second phase of the project, and it has the capacity to build a variety of large modern merchant ships, such as 300,000 DWT ultra-large ** ships (VLCC 10,000 DWT Capesize bulk carriers, etc.). It is not known whether the shipyard will build military ships, but given its enormous size and production capacity, it is conceivable that it will build aircraft carriers (when China decides to build them).

Founded in June 1961, the China Ship Research Institute is located in Beijing, with more than 500 professional and technical personnel, nearly 200 senior professional and technical personnel including researchers and teachers, and 1 academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering.
The China Ship Research Institute has four professional doctoral training programs, including the first-level doctoral training program of naval architecture and ocean engineering, and a postdoctoral mobile station for naval architecture and ocean engineering.
It is a scientific and technological research institution specializing in the research, design and development of ships, and is a backbone scientific and technological force in the modernization and development of China's ships and marine engineering technology.
