Socrates (469 BC, 399 BC) was a famous thinker, philosopher, educator, and civic juror in ancient Greece.

Socrates, his student Plato, and Plato's student Aristotle, known as the "Three Sages of Ancient Greece", are widely regarded as the founders of Western philosophy.

Socrates was born at the time of the complete victory of the Greco-Persian Wars and grew up in the heyday of Pericles, at a time when wise men had gathered in Athens from all over Greece, bringing to the democratic Athens a new style of knowledge and free debate.
