Our current electoral law.
The basic principles are:
1. The principle of universal suffrage;
2. The principle of equal election;
3. The principle of simultaneous use of direct and indirect elections;
4. The principle of secret ballot, also known as the principle of secret election;
5. The principle of differential election;
6. The principle of guaranteeing the right to vote.
The democratic electoral system of direct and indirect elections began in 1953. Based on the actual situation at that time, the Election Law only stipulated that deputies to grassroots people's congresses were to be directly elected, and deputies to local people's congresses at and above the county level (including counties) and to the National People's Congress were to be elected.
All are indirectly elected. With political, economic, cultural and transport developments, the 1979 Electoral Law extended direct elections to the county level. For more than 30 years, especially the Third Plenary Session of the 11th Central Committee of the Communist Party of China.
Practice has proved that the democratic electoral system, which uses both direct and indirect elections, not only conforms to China's national conditions, but also enables the people to be the masters of the country.
The democratic rights of the country have been well realized.

The principle of universal suffrage means that all citizens who have reached the age of election can participate in the elections, and all citizens should enjoy the right to vote, except for those who are restricted due to certain diseases or deprivation of political rights in accordance with the law.
2) The principle of equal suffrage, which means that each voter has only one vote in an election, and each ballot has equal validity, and no one is allowed to enjoy political privileges.
3) The principle of direct and indirect elections. Direct election means that members of Parliament or other public officials of the State are elected by direct vote of the electorate. Indirect elections refer to the election of representatives or electors by the voters, who then vote for the public officials of the State concerned.
4) The principle of secret ballot means that the voter does not sign the ballot paper during the election, does not disclose the ballot paper to others, and personally puts the ballot paper into the ballot box. This allows voters to express their wishes more authentically.
