In 1922, the young Dalí came to Madrid to study at the San Fernando Academy of Fine Arts. It was here that Dalí's paintings made him famous. He explored Cubism in his paintings and attracted the attention of figures who would later become prominent figures in the Spanish art scene, such as Federico Galicia Lorca and Pebin Beyo Bouill.
Around 1940, Dalí developed a new style – known as his "classical" period – that showed his focus on science and religion. During World War II, Dalí and Gala fled Europe and spent eight years in the United States, from 1940 to 1948.
In 1941, the Museum of Modern Art in New York dedicated Dalí his first large-scale retrospective; In the same year, Dalí submitted a script to Jay Ann Carbine called "Moon Tide".
In 1974, Dalí opened the Teatro exhibition hall in Figueres, Spain, and then held retrospective exhibitions in Paris and London before the end of the 70s of the 20th century. Since the death of Dalí's wife, Gala, in 1982, Dalí's health has deteriorated.

Written in 1931, "The Eternity of Memory" was inspired by Sigmund Freud and represents a chaotic fantasy world. We see clear objects scattered disorderly across the frame. The clock with its wet dough cake is particularly memorable.
The infinite and far-reaching background gives people an illusory and cold silence, and a sense of loss. Dalí's paintings are often broken glass, fully showing the dreamlike scenes of the unconscious. But in fact, these seemingly occasional illusionary images must have gone through considerable efforts by the painter; And the seemingly unconscious picture must be the result of a conscious plan, or even the result of a dismal operation.
The Eternity of Memory is no exception. Sigmund Freud once said to Dalí, "What is there in your art that interests me? Not unconscious, but conscious. ”

In order to generate images from his subconscious mind, Dalí began to induce hallucinations in his body using a method called the "paranoid critical state". After discovering this method, Dalí's style matured unusually quickly, and his paintings made between 1929 and 1937 made him one of the world's most famous surrealist artists. In the dreams he depicts, ordinary objects are juxtaposed, distorted, or deformed in a bizarre and unconscionable way.
Dalí's depictions of these objects are meticulously detailed, almost to the point of unmistakable realism, often setting them in a very desolate but sunny landscape, reminiscent of his native Catalonia. Perhaps the most famous of these riddle-like imagery is The Eternity of Memory (1931).
