Mustard Na Sumeru, a story.
Li Bo, the assassin of Jiangzhou in the Tang Dynasty, once asked Zen Master Zhichang: "What the Buddhist scriptures say, 'Sumeru hides mustard seeds, mustard seeds Na Sumeru', I think it is too mysterious and bizarre, how can a small mustard seed accommodate such a large Sumeru Mountain?" This is really too ignorant of common sense, is it a lie?
After listening to Li Bo's words, Zen Master Zhichang smiled lightly and asked: "People say that you 'read more than 10,000 books', is there really such a thing?" Absolutely!
Absolutely! Why don't I read more than 10,000 books? Li Bo looked triumphant.
So what about the 10,000 books you've spent in **? Zen Master Zhichang asked Li Bo along the topic. Li Bo raised his hand and pointed to his head and said
Of course, it's all saved here. Zen Master Zhichang said, "Strange, I see that your head is only the size of a coconut, how can it fit ten thousand books?"
Are you also lying? After Li Bo heard this, he immediately realized and suddenly became enlightened. All Zen principles are sometimes explained from the point of view, and sometimes they are explained from the point of view.
Therefore, we must know that in the universe, there is reason in things, and there are things in reason; It is a fact that Sumeru hides mustard seeds, and mustard seeds Na Sumeru is Zen. If you can understand that there is no barrier to the council, then you will be able to understand Zen with ease. So the meaning of this sentence is that Jimmy is a work that looks short and simple, but it contains deep thoughts.

The original text is: Na Sumeru is in mustard seeds. It is a passage in the Buddhist scriptures, Sumeru refers to Mount Meru, and mustard seeds refer to very small seeds, which means that the big and the small tolerate each other, and generally refers to some spiritual tolerance.
Now it is mostly used in fantasy or Xianxia**, which refers to the use of a very small storage tool to accommodate a large volume of things.
-
First of all, it is corrected: Sumeru is not "Sumeru is in mustard seeds".
Buddhism and secular society are interconnected, just as mustard seeds and Mount Meru can tolerate each other. Mustard is a vegetable, seeds are like millet grains, and Buddhists use the metaphor of "mustard seeds" to be extremely small. Mount Meru was originally the name of the mountain in Hindu mythology, and later used by Buddhism, referring to the residence of the emperor Shakti, the four heavenly kings, etc., its height is 84,000 by ten years, and the Buddhists take the metaphor of "Mount Meru" to be extremely huge.
In Bai Juyi's "Bai's Changqing Collection, Three Teachings on Heng, and Asking the Monk" in the Tang Dynasty, there is such a question: "Ask: "Vima Sutra: Incredible Product" cloud mustard seed Na Sumeru, Sumeru is the largest and highest, and the mustard seed is micro to small, how can the mustard seed enter the Sumeru Mountain? ”
-
Literally, Mount Meru is inside the mustard seed, and the mustard seed has Mount Meru inside. Roughly speaking, how much an object can hold is not measured by its appearance! The story of Zen Gate - Sumeru hides mustard seeds, mustard seeds Na Sumeru.
Li Bo, the assassin of Jiangzhou in the Tang Dynasty, asked Zen Master Zhichang: "The Buddhist scriptures say that 'Sumeru hides mustard seeds, mustard seeds accept Sumeru', which is inevitably mysterious, how can a small mustard seed accommodate such a large Sumeru Mountain?"
If you don't understand common sense, you're deceiving people, right? Zen Master Zhichang laughed when he heard this, and asked, "People say that you 'read more than 10,000 books', but is there such a thing?"
?Of course! Of course! Shall I read more than 10,000 books? Li Bo looked triumphant.
"So where are the 10,000 books you've read now? ”
Li Bo raised his hand and pointed to his head and said, "It's all here!" ”
Zen Master Zhichang said: "Strange, I see that your head is only the size of a coconut, how can it hold ten thousand books?" Could it be that you are also a liar? ”
After Li Bo heard this, there was a bang in his head, and he suddenly realized.
All the Dharmas, sometimes they are engaged in speaking, sometimes they are explained from the reasoning, you must know that in the universe and the world, there is reason in things, there are things in reason, Sumeru hiding mustard seeds is a thing, and mustard seeds are in Sumeru, if you can understand that there is no hindrance, this is the harmony of all the laws.

Sumeru means infinite, and mustard seeds are very small grass seeds. Sumeru hides mustard seeds, which is easy to understand, mustard seeds Na Sumeru, which means that in fact, a place the size of a grass seed is also a world, and there are countless lives in it. It's like a Buddhist one:
A flower is a pure land, and a soil is the same. "Same.
-
It is a debate of Buddhism's worldview and values, mustard seeds refer to extremely small things, Sumeru refers to the world, and very small things contain the world, representing the worldview of Buddhism: our world is like a mustard seed in the higher world, and our mustard-like things here may contain a world, representing the equality of all beings and a philosophical idea of the infinite world. As the saying goes, one flower is one world, one leaf is one Bodhi.

This is the first truth, the principle of emptiness, so it cannot be seen in terms of the common attachment that we ordinary people are attached to.
We are now ordinary people who are reversing the six realms of reincarnation, and what we see is not necessarily the truth. Therefore, when we think that Sumeru is big, mustard seeds are small, and there is attachment to the big and small phases, the mustard seeds are not able to accept Sumeru at all. Because we take things for ourselves.
In reality, the big is also idealistic, the small is also idealistic, and the ten thousand laws are idealistic, so the mustard seed is also a false appearance, and Sumeru is also a false appearance, like a dream, how can it not be included. This can't be copied. When you don't really realize emptiness, you don't break the ego, you don't have the dharma, you want to get in, it's not possible at all.
Therefore, as long as we understand the truth, all appearances are false, and the size is harmonious. But to truly attain enlightenment, it is a great bodhisattva who has ascended to the earth. Not just ordinary people.
In the Vimala Sutra, there are relevant descriptions, and if you are interested, you can also take a look, which is the state of the great bodhisattva.

The meaning of this sentence: Fu Xi's poem is far-reaching, sincere, and uses his understanding of Buddhism to persuade people to return to the original state of nature, so as to obtain true liberation.

Sumeru hides mustard seeds, needless to say, just say Na Sumeru. Becoming a dwelling, a bad and empty, all follow the process. When there is something that begins to dissolve, and the order cannot restrain the change, then the yin and yang begin to flood each other continuously, and the space slowly shrinks as it begins.
Yin and yang are almost submerged, and the space finally shrinks into a singularity. This kind of mutual flooding should be the mutual flooding of positive and negative electrons in matter. In atoms, protons and electrons are generally short-circuited, and energy is released without dissolution, and the microscopic space is constantly shattering, and the macroscopic space is shrinking.
So it is inferred that the micro and the macro are one, and the smallest is the largest. It was originally the largest, but you see that it is the smallest, which is the relationship between the observation space. ...No matter how big Sumeru is, it is only a composition of the universe.
Within the universe, nothing could be bigger than the universe. If the universe is an egg, then the mustard seed, in a certain dimension, its existence represents the eggshell of the universe, Sumeru is the egg white, the egg yolk or not, it is all in the shell.

It means that the huge Mt. Meru contains many tiny mustard seeds, and at the same time, the tiny mustard seeds can hold the huge Mt. Meru. It aims to express this world, big and small are relative, and the same is true of gains and losses, big and small, small and big, gains and losses, and losses will also be gained.
As there is a saying in history, it is called "If you lose your horse, you will not know if you are blessed." "In life, you need to look down on fame and fortune, know how to let go, and naturally your mind will be broader, and the world in your heart will be more exciting.
The understanding of the phrase "Sumeru hides mustard seeds, mustard seeds Nasumeru".
1. To study Buddhism, we must know how to think dialectically.
In modern times, the dispute between Ouyang Jingwu and Master Taixu has given us a deeper understanding of Buddhism from different perspectives. They just look at the problem from different angles, but in fact, they give us the same thinking, that is, we should use dialectical thinking to understand Buddhism.
Second, people's vision determines people's achievements.
A person's mind is actually like a mustard seed, although it looks small, but a Mount Meru can hide. Therefore, whether we study Buddhism or other life studies, we have to have a measure that embraces everything in the world. As long as everyone has enough bearing, their hearts can tolerate all things, and your achievements will naturally be like Sumeru.

Mustard seeds, that is, the seeds of mustard greens, are very small metaphors used by Buddhists.
Sumeru, or Mount Meru, is the center of a small world in Buddhist cosmology, and it is the largest thing closely related to human beings, so it was later used as a metaphor for being extremely huge.
In Buddhist scriptures, there are often sayings such as "Sumeru Na Mustard Seed" and "Mustard Seed Na Sumeru".
The former is not difficult to understand, with the size of Sumeru and the size of mustard seeds, it is naturally not a problem; And the latter is not easy to understand, how can a very small mustard seed accommodate the huge Mount Meru? Isn't that contrary to common sense?
During the Tang Baoli period, Li Bo, the assassin of Jiangzhou, raised this question to the Zhichang Zen master of the Rinzai sect. He said that he felt that the "mustard seed Na Sumeru" in the Buddhist scriptures was really unreasonable, and he suspected that it was nonsense. ("Mustard Na Sumeru Mo Cheng is not a lie?") ”)
The Zen master asked, "I see that your head is the size of a coconut, how can you fit ten thousand books?" ”
Faced with this question, Li Bo suddenly realized, and his mouth suddenly opened.
This is a very famous story in the Zen forest. In this regard, the contemporary Buddhist master Venerable Xingyun once explained:
All the Dharmas, sometimes in the way of speaking, sometimes in the sense of reason, to know the universe and the world, there is reason in things, and there are things in reason; Sumeru is a matter of mustard seeds, and mustard seeds are a matter of reason, if you can understand that the council is not hindered, this is the harmony of all the laws. ”
Sumeru is contained in the mustard seeds, Sumeru does not decrease, mustard seeds do not increase, the Dharma lives in the Dharma position, and there is no obstacle to harmony. This incredible thing happened because of the unique worldview and philosophical system of Buddhism.
Buddhists, especially the Mahayana Void Sect, hold the view of the world that "there is no falsehood". That is, everything in the world is an illusion of karma and detachment in terms of its essence, and that the gathering of fate will arise, and the separation of fate will perish, like an illusion like a dream, and it will be impermanent in an instant.
Just like the four well-known verses in the "Diamond Sutra": "All things have a way, like a dream bubble, like dew and electricity, should be viewed as such." ”
This is to let us look at everything in this world as "there is nothing in it", and not to cling to it and be bound by it, our original liberated nature.
If you can attain enlightenment and liberation, you will be able to enter the realm of harmony without any obstacles.
In such a realm, time, space, and the qualitative nature of things can be transcended; Size, length, number, similarities and differences, etc., can also be mutually photographed and intertwined-
The so-called one law is all laws, and all laws are one law; One thought is immeasurable, and immeasurable eons are one thought; One sand and one world, one leaf and one Bodhi ......
And - Sumeru Na Mustard Seed, Mustard Seed Na Sumeru!

Buddhists use the metaphor of "mustard seeds" to be extremely small. Mount Meru was originally the name of the mountain in Hindu mythology, referring to the residence of the emperor Shakti and the four heavenly kings, and the Buddhists used the metaphor of "Mount Meru" to be extremely huge. The previous sentence is easy to understand, and the next sentence is similar to:
There are three thousand worlds in one grain of sand; A flower is a world, a leaf is like a come, and so on.
