Faculty of Nuclear Science and Technology.
Faculty Overview. The college was established at the critical moment of energy shortage, aiming at the strategic needs of national nuclear energy and the rapid development of nuclear science and technology, and was jointly established with the Hefei Institute of Physical Sciences of the Chinese Academy of Sciences. The fundamental purpose is to cultivate high-end technical and management talents for China's nuclear industry around the development of advanced nuclear power and thermonuclear fusion, the construction of nuclear scientific devices and the application of nuclear technology.
The undergraduate education of the college has the discipline of nuclear engineering and nuclear technology, and there are four major directions: nuclear energy science and engineering, nuclear technology and application, nuclear medicine physics, and nuclear safety and environmental protection. The School has a national first-class key discipline of nuclear science and technology, and has ranked second in the evaluation of the Academic Degrees and Graduate Education Development Center of the Ministry of Education in previous years.
Faculty. The college brings together a group of well-known experts in the nuclear field and outstanding young scholars, with a background in large-scale science and engineering construction, leading in China and an important position in the world, and is a united and cooperative team. The college has 69 professors and 64 associate professors, including 3 academicians, 7 winners of the National Outstanding Youth Program, 14 winners of the Hundred Talents Program of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, and 1 national model teacher.
He has served in more than 20 academic organizations at home and abroad.
Scientific research. Driven by major international scientific programs, the School focuses on major national strategic needs, and relies on a number of thermonuclear fusion experimental devices, synchrotron radiation light sources, strong magnetic fields and other large scientific devices and national laboratories, reflecting the highest level of nuclear science and technology research in China. In the field of nuclear fusion, he has made scientific research achievements with important domestic and foreign influences, such as plasma physics theory, plasma physics experiments, plasma physics and microwave engineering, synchrotron radiation related experimental technology and innovative research of optical engineering technology, reaching the leading domestic and international advanced level.
Cultivation goals. The college has a complete education system of "undergraduate-master-doctoral" and has a "postdoctoral mobile station of nuclear science and technology". The development direction of the discipline is distinctive, with three major characteristics: the combination of science and engineering, the combination of nuclear fission and nuclear fusion science and technology, and the combination of accelerator and synchrotron radiation application.
At the same time, the college has established good industry-university-research exchanges and cooperative relations with large state-owned nuclear power enterprise groups and important scientific research institutes in the nuclear field. Adhering to USTC's philosophy of "high-quality education and talent education", it aims to cultivate outstanding talents in the field of nuclear science and technology with solid and broad theoretical and practical basic knowledge, excellent innovation ability and modern knowledge structure.
Where to go after graduation. After graduation, students can engage in teaching and scientific research, design and development, operation management and other work in large domestic nuclear power enterprises, scientific research institutes, universities, national defense units or first-class departments, and participate in the construction of large scientific projects in the nuclear field. More than 50% of the graduates have received full scholarships from famous foreign universities to study abroad or continue their studies in China, while the rest of the graduates mainly work in large state-owned enterprises such as China National Nuclear Corporation and China Guangdong Nuclear Power Corporation, as well as universities and research institutes.
