The punishment of cutting off the foot. Also known as execution. Heavier than execution.
It was commonly used during the Spring and Autumn Period and the Warring States Period. In the Xia Dynasty, it was also called the punishment of the Emperor, in the Zhou Dynasty, it was changed to the punishment of the Emperor, and in the Qin Dynasty, it was called the toe beheading. It means cutting off the left foot, right foot, or both feet.
Some say that the kneecap is removed. Legend has it that Sun Tzu was named Sun Bin because he was tortured. Due to the large number of people who were tortured in the Qi country, there was a phenomenon of "cheap and expensive", which was the shoes worn by the foot-cutters.
In the Qin and early Han dynasties, those who committed serious crimes were cut off their right toes, and those who committed minor crimes were cut off their left toes. Emperor Wen of the Han Dynasty removed the corporal punishment, changed the left toe to five hundred, and cut the right toe to abandon the city. By the time of Emperor Jing of the Han Dynasty, he ordered that prisoners who should abandon the city could listen to the permission if they were willing to cut off their right toes, and the abolished punishment was resumed.
Since the Wei and Jin dynasties, there has been no provision for punishment in the legal code. However, there are also occasional executioners, such as in the early Tang Dynasty, where the right toe was cut off as a punishment for the crime of commutation.

In ancient times, "imprisonment" meant that all prisoners who were subjected to corporal punishment were required to perform a certain amount of work and perform hard labor.
Three periods of the development of prison sentences:
1. Western Zhou Dynasty:
The prison sentences that had already appeared in the Shang Dynasty were inherited by the Western Zhou Dynasty and developed and perfected, forming a set of prison sentence management system. The Western Zhou Dynasty imprisoned the prisoners in Yuantu, "gathering religion and dismissing the people with Yuantu".
2. Qin and Han dynasties:
In the Qin Dynasty, prison sentences were used in combination with corporal punishment, and in the early Han Dynasty, the Qin system was followed, and corporal punishment such as ink, slashing, slashing, and palace were still used to mutilate the limbs of prisoners, and the punishment was divided into two types: cutting off the left and right toes. During the reign of Emperor Wen of the Han Dynasty, the reform of the penal system was implemented, and for the specific process of the reform, please refer to pages 168 to 169 of the Manuscript of the History of Chinese Criminal Law. After the reform of Qinshua, corporal punishment was abolished, and corporal punishment was replaced by flogging.
3. Wei, Jin, Southern and Northern Dynasties:
The prison system developed. The "Wei Law" stipulates that there are four punishments; Three for each of the completed and the committed.
The specific content of the punishment is unknown, but it is certainly a prison sentence, with a difference of 10 degrees. The punishment of Wei and Jin is different from the punishment of the previous life, it is a prison sentence, and the punishment is an additional punishment, and it must be flogged, with a minimum of two years.
