Tran Hung Hung, born in Vietnam on December 23, 1962, is a professional director and screenwriter. In France, he studied drama and film. In 1994, he launched his first film, The Taste of Green Papaya, which catapulted Tran Hung Hung to fame, winning the Caméra d'Or at the Cannes Film Festival and the César Award for Best Foreign Language Film, thus making Tran Hung a leading figure in Vietnam's new cinema.

In September 1984, he was admitted to the Department of Chemical Engineering of South China University of Technology, majoring in basic organic chemical engineering, and graduated in July 1988 with a bachelor's degree in engineering. In September 1988, he began to study for a master's degree in chemical engineering in the Department of Chemical Engineering of South China University of Technology, and graduated with a master's degree in engineering in April 1991. From February to December 1999, as a visiting scholar, he was engaged in the research of advanced oxidation treatment of wastewater at South China University of Technology.
