Yes, the Dongping section of the canal is an important section of the Beijing-Hangzhou Grand Canal, in this section of the canal there is the Daicun Dam, a vital water diversion hub on the Huitong River, and there is also Anshan Lake, which was one of the four major water tanks in the Ming and Qing dynasties.

From Dadu (now Beijing), the capital of the Yuan Dynasty, to the southeastern grain-producing area, most places have waterways that can be passed, only between Dadu and Tongzhou, between Linqing and Jeju, there is no convenient waterway, or the original river channel is blocked, or there is no river channel at all. Therefore, the key to the connection of the north-south waterway is the construction of new artificial channels in these two sections. The canal between Lincheong and Jeju was built in two phases during the Yuan Dynasty, with the Jeju River being opened first and then the Huihui River.
Jeju Henan stretches 150 miles from the town of Rokjeo in the south of Jeju (present-day Jinyeong-si) to Ansan in the north of Suseong (in present-day Dongpyeong-gu). People took advantage of the favorable natural conditions, using Wenshui and Surabaya as water sources, building sluices and dams, and digging channels to transport water. Huitong Henan starts from the Ansan of Sucheng, connects the Jeju River, digs a canal to the north, passes through Liaocheng, and connects the Wei River to Linqing, which is 250 miles long.
Like the Jeju River, it has many locks and dams built on the river. After these two sections of the canal were dug up, grain ships in the south could pass through the Weihe River and the Baihe River to reach Tongzhou. Huitong River is in the Yuan Dynasty in order to make the Grand Canal run through the north and south and dug up, the river has built 31 locks, in order to regulate the flow, so the name of the lock river.
However, due to the instability of the water source, the river is sometimes troubled with shallows, and it is not overloaded, so the northward transportation of grain in the Yuan generation is still dominated by the seaway; At the end of the Yuan Dynasty, the river was abandoned.

Dongping Lake is partly a natural formation (old lake area) and partly an artificial lake. Dongping Lake Reservoir is located at the confluence of the Yellow River and the Wen River in Shandong Province, and is the only remaining water area of the world-famous 800-mile Shuibo Liangshan Mountain. After the return of the Yellow River to its original course in 1947, Dongping Lake became a natural flood detention area for the Yellow River and the Wen River.
During the 1958 flood of the Yellow River, the natural flood detention of Dongping Lake played an important role in ensuring the safety of the eastern section of the lower reaches of the Yellow River. In July 1958, the state approved the construction of the Weishan Junction and expanded Dongping Lake into an anti-regulation reservoir that could control flood storage.
Dongping Lake is divided into two parts: the old lake area and the flood detention area, and the middle is separated by the secondary lake embankment. The old lake area is in the northeast, with an area of 209 square kilometers and perennial water storage, which is generally known as Dongping Lake. The flood detention area, also known as the Xinhu District, covers an area of 423 square kilometers in the southeast, most of which is agricultural land, and is a flood distribution area to prevent the Yellow River's catastrophic floods.
Dongping Lake is located in the west of Dongping County, between 116°2 116°20 east longitude and 35°43 36°7 north latitude, starting from Qinghekou Gate in the north, reaching Jinxianling embankment in the south, Jiliang Canal and Yellow River embankment in the west, and draining the river in the east along Phoenix Mountain, Huanghuayuan, Zhoucheng, Wutaoyuan and other villages and towns in the east of the lake. There are Jinshan, Kunshan, Tushan, Tieshan and so on in the lake. It is 585 kilometers away from the Sanmenxia hub of the Yellow River in the southwest and 364 kilometers away from the estuary of the Yellow River in the northeast.
The bottom of the lake is high in the northwest and low in the southeast, with the lowest elevation meters. The total area is 627 square kilometers, the original reservoir area is 632 square kilometers, and the total area of the reservoir is reduced by 5 square kilometers after the Grand Canal crosses the yellow line. The designed water storage elevation is 44 meters, and the water capacity is 4 billion cubic meters.
It is a large reservoir that stores the flood waters of the Yellow River and is the second largest freshwater lake in Shandong Province.
A canal is an artificial waterway used to communicate water transport between regions or bodies of water, usually connected to natural waterways or other canals. In addition to shipping, canals can also be used for irrigation, flood distribution, drainage, water supply, etc. >>>More
The Beijing-Hangzhou Canal is the main artery of China's north-south water transportation, and has played a huge role in the development of China's social, political, economic and cultural development in different historical stages in the past since the Spring and Autumn Period and the Warring States Period. From the 19th century onwards, due to the rise of north-south shipping and the later opening of the Tianjin-Pudong Railway, its role gradually decreased. After the founding of the People's Republic of China, along with the needs of economic construction and development, many sections of the canal were dredged, deepened or straightened, and many new locks were built, and engineering problems such as water sources were properly solved. >>>More
