Zhou Zuoren (January 16, 1885, May 6, 1967) was originally known as Zhu Shou (later changed to Kui Shou), the word Xing Lao, also known as Qiming, Qi Meng, Qi Meng, pen names Yashou, Zhongmi, Qiming, No. Zhitang, Yaotang, Duying, etc. He is the younger brother of Lu Xun (Zhou Shuren) and the brother of Zhou Jianren. He is a famous essayist, literary theorist, critic, poet, translator, thinker in modern China, a pioneer of Chinese folklore, and an outstanding representative of the New Culture Movement. He has served as a professor and head of the Department of Oriental Literature at National Peking University, and a visiting professor at the Department of New Literature at Yenching University. During the New Culture Movement, he was an important fan author of "New Youth" and served as the director of the "New Tide Society".
After the May Fourth Movement, he initiated the establishment of the "Literature Research Association" with Zheng Zhenduo, Shen Yanbing, Ye Shaojun, Xu Dishan and others; He also founded the weekly "Yuxi" with Lu Xun, Lin Yutang, Sun Fuyuan, etc., and served as the editor-in-chief and main writer. Zhou Zuoren began to be a traitor, and was later sentenced, and spent his life uneventfully after his release.
In December 1945, after the end of the Anti-Japanese War, he was arrested by the Kuomintang on the charge of traitor in Beiping, and escorted to Nanjing for trial and imprisoned in Laohuqiao Prison.
On 6 November 1946, the High Court sentenced him to 14 years' imprisonment, which was commuted to 10 years' imprisonment on 9 December 1947.
