Analysis: The IEEE was formed on January 1, 1963 by the merger of AIEE (Institute of Electrical Engineers) and IRE (American Institute of Radio Engineers), and is the largest professional society in the United States. The IEEE is a non-profit science and technology society with more than 360,000 members in nearly 175 countries around the world.
Through its diverse membership, the organization is a leading authority in the fields of space, computing, telecommunications, biomedicine, power and consumer electronics. In the fields of electrical and electronic engineering, computer and control technology, the IEEE publishes nearly 30 percent of the total literature. IEEE also hosts or co-organizes more than 300 technical conferences every year.
Purpose Since its establishment, IEEE has been committed to promoting the development and application of electrotechnical technology in theory. As a catalyst for technological innovation, the IEEE supports the needs of its members through the planning and service of activities in a wide range of areas. Promote the exchange of science and technology and information in technical fields ranging from computer engineering, biomedicine, and communications to electric power, aerospace, and user electronics, carry out education and training, formulate and recommend electrical and electronic technology standards, and reward members with scientific and technological achievements.
Institution: The Society is headed by a President (currently by Mr.). w.Cleon Anderson and the Executive Committee.
Major matters of the Society are decided by the Council and the General Assembly, and the Executive Committee is responsible for the day-to-day affairs. The society has four committees and 38 professional sub-societies such as power engineering, aerospace and electronic systems, computers, communications, broadcasting, circuits and systems, control systems, electronic devices, electromagnetic compatibility, industrial electronics, information theory, engineering management, microwave theory and technology, nuclear and plasma science, ocean engineering, power electronics, reliability, user electronics, etc. The Society is also divided into 10 regions, with a total of more than 300 local branches.
The congress consisted of representatives from 10 regional societies and 10 technical branches. IEEE Beijing was established in 1985.
IEEE members can enjoy the following preferential treatment: members can communicate with each other and share information; Exclusive special cost savings and value-added benefits; To recognise and award members for their technical and professional achievements; opportunities to participate, lead or volunteer in various IEEE activities; E-commerce between web services and IEEE.
IEEE standards include electrical and electronic equipment, test methods, original components, symbols, definitions, and test methods.
Publications: IEEE Journal (monthly), IEEE Magazine (monthly), IEEE Overview (monthly), IEEE Guidelines (published annually); There are also more than 800 standards that have been issued or are in the process of being developed; The professional branch societies also publish various journals, magazines and conference collections.
