April 1: The World Convention on the Protection of Beneficial Birds designates April 1 as the International Day for Birds.
According to the IUCN, the state of the world's birds has continued to deteriorate since the first comprehensive assessment in 1988, with the direct and indirect effects of human activities being the most important influencing factors.
As of September 2020, the main threats to birds are habitat threats, biological invasions, climate change, illegal hunting, etc. There are 11,147 species of birds in the world, and 1,486 species are classified as threatened, accounting for the total number of birds in the world.
The role of nature
The role of birds in nature refers to the status and role of birds in different ecosystems (such as forest ecosystems, grassland ecosystems, farmland, lakes, oceans and other ecosystems). Birds are important members of the ecosystem and, while may not have a significant impact on productivity, have a density-constraining effect on the prey they eat. In addition, birds are responsible for the transport of seeds and nutrients, and participate in the energy flow and inorganic material circulation within the system, maintaining the stability of the ecosystem.

"I don't know when I sleep in spring, and I smell birds everywhere. "Spring is the breeding season for birds. It is often said that:
"The working people of our country have a tradition of understanding and caring for birds since ancient times. As far back as the Spring and Autumn Period and the Warring States Period (770 BC to 221 BC), Confucius put forward the idea of protecting birds that "if the nest is covered and the eggs are destroyed, the phoenix will not fly" ("Historical Records: The Family of Confucius"). The Western Zhou Dynasty paid attention not only to the protection of female birds, but also to the protection of young birds.
For example: "Sacrifice mountains, forests, rivers and rivers without using a bird or beast (i.e., female birds and beasts)", do not cover the nest, do not kill children, insects, fetuses and birds" ("Zhou Li"). The Western Han Dynasty (206 B.C., 25 A.D.) stipulates:
The eagle falcon is not yet known, and the net cannot be stretched in the valley. "Pregnancy shall not be killed, shell eggs shall not be picked" and so on ("Huainanzi"). It is explained that the Emperor Law stipulates that it is forbidden to hunt and kill bred parent birds, and it is forbidden to dig bird eggs.
In the Song Dynasty, the laws and regulations on loving birds and protecting birds included "from February to September, the people have no choice but to hunt insects and birds, and catapult birds" ("Continuation of the Governance of Tongjian"). In the Yuan Dynasty, the law of "hunting swans and falcons is strictly prohibited" was also stipulated. For the understanding and protection of birds, in the Ming Dynasty's Li Shizhen (1518-1593) wrote the "Compendium of Materia Medica", which described birds in three volumes.
There are 23 species of waterfowl in volume 47, 23 species of protobirds in volume 48, 17 species of forest birds and 13 species of mountain birds in volume 49. This historical masterpiece not only has practical significance in medicine and is well-known at home and abroad, but also is a summary of China's knowledge and love for birds at that time, and embodies the glorious tradition and long history of our Chinese nation's understanding and love for birds.
However, only after the founding of the People's Republic of China, the party and the people of the whole country have taken a series of measures to love and protect birds, so as to promote this work into a new period. As early as March 1981, China and Japan signed the Agreement on the Protection of Migratory Birds and Their Habitats in order to protect the migratory birds that migrate between the two countries.
On September 14, the Ministry of Forestry and other 8 departments submitted the "Instructions on Strengthening Bird Protection and Implementing the Agreement on the Protection of Migratory Birds between China and Japan". Among them, "it is recommended to designate one week as 'Bird Loving Week' from April to early May each year (the specific time is specified by the province, municipality and autonomous region'".
On September 25, *** forwarded the notice of the request.
