After Wen Yan was in Zhejiang's "Broadcom Mahayana", he still felt that "he did not know what he was doing", so he decided to study. Wen Yan's first visit was Muzhou Chen Zunsu (Dao Trace). Dao trace is the Nanyue Department of Huang Bai Xi Yun under the door, he first lived in the Guanyin Temple, the door of the scholar often more than 100 people, "with the question and answer, the words are steep", "from all sides to admire, Xian to respect the name".
When Wen Yan visited, the trail had returned to Kaiyuan Temple, "the house weaves Pu shoes to support his mother, so there is the number of Chen Pu shoes". For Wen Yan's participation in the Taoist trace, the fifteenth volume of the "Five Lantern Huiyuan" is recorded as follows:
Before he knew what he was doing, he went to Shenmu Prefecture, and when the state saw it, he closed the door. Shi Nai buckled the door, and the state said: "Who?
The teacher said: "A certain A." The state said:
Doing what? The teacher said: "I don't know what I do, and the beggar teacher instructs."
The state opened its doors and closed at first sight. The division then closed the door for three days, and on the third day, the state opened the door, and the division entered. The state then caught and said:
Road! Road! "The division proposed, and the state launched it
Qin Shi Che Du drilled. Then he closed the door and lost his master's foot. Since then, the teacher has come to his senses.
Yunmen Kuangzhen Zen Master Guanglu (hereinafter referred to as "Guanglu") in the volume of the "Records of the You Fang" is slightly the same. Going to Muzhou was Wen Yan's first time to study, and through this study, Wen Yan finally got an entry in the Zen road, so Wen Yan went to Xuefeng Yicun under the instruction of Muzhou. For Wen Yan's participation in Yicun, the biography of Wen Yan in the fifteenth volume of "Five Lantern Huiyuan" is recorded as follows:
When the teacher arrived at Xuefeng Village, he saw a monk and asked, "Where did you go up the mountain today?" The monk said:
Be. "Send a karma to ask the head monk, but I can't say that it is someone else's language. The monk said:
Get. The teacher said: "When I went to the mountains to see the monk go to the hall, everyone gathered and came out, and said:
This old man has an iron flail on his neck, why not take it off? One of his monks was taught by his teacher. When Xue Feng saw this monk and the Tao, he got off the seat and stopped him and said:
Speed! Speed! "There is no right monk.
Feng Tuokai said: "It's not Ruyu. The monk said:
It's a certain A language. Feng said, "The waiter will bring the rope stick."
The people went to the village to receive five hundred people of good knowledge. The next day, the teacher went up to the snow peak, and when he saw it, he said: "Why did you get the land?"
The teacher bows his head and fits from here. Wen Yan accumulates minoru, and the secret is conferred with the seal of the sect.
Wen Yan's enlightenment was in the Snow Peak, and Wen Yan often said in his teachings after living in the mountain: "There is Snow Peak in the south, and Zhaozhou in the north", which shows that he only approved of these two great virtues for the Zhuyan in the jungle at that time. After Wen Yan enlightened the Tao in Xuefeng, he was close to Xuefeng for a year, and in the volume of "Guanglu", it was also recorded that there was a monk under Xuefeng who raised the "Participation in the Deed" and asked, "How is it 'touching the eyes and not knowing the way, and knowing the way'?"
Xue Feng said: "Sky! Firmament!
The monk who participated in the study did not know, but asked Wen Yan, Wen Yan said: "Three catties of hemp, one piece of cloth", and the monk said: "No."
Wen Yan said: "More three feet of bamboo." Wen Yan also stood out because of this Zen machine, and he was quite respected by Xuefeng.

Yunmen Wenyan Zen Master (864-949 AD), commonly known as Zhang, was born in Jiaxing, Gusu (now Jiaxing, Zhejiang), born in the fifth year of Xiantong (864) of Tang Yizong, and was the founder of Yunmen Zen. The second volume of the "Treasure Biography of the Zen Forest Monks" says that he "is a young monk of the Kongwang Temple". In the "Biography of the Zen Forest Monks" written by Song Ren Huihong, it is recorded that Wen Yan is "bold in nature, with rich cheeks and bones, elite and exquisite, slender eyes, pupils like paint, eyebrows and eyelashes, and distant vision", and "Five Lantern Huiyuan" is also said to be Wen Yan's childhood "sensitive and wise, wise and longitudinal".
It can be seen that Wen Yan has shown his extraordinariness since he was a child. When he became an adult, Wen Yan received ordination at the altar of Biling (now Changzhou, Jiangsu), and then still served Zen Master Zhicheng and explored the law and Tibet.
