Picasso's 1909-1911 "Analytic Cubism" painting "Portrait of Carthle" (oil painting, 100 cm, 1910) clearly shows how Picasso applied this analytical cubist painting language to the creation of a specific figure. What is puzzling is that it is precisely in this extremely abstract and distorted depiction of the decomposition of the image and the abandonment of color that Picasso has never given up the reference to the model. In order to paint this picture, he had his old friend Mr. Kathler patiently pose, and sat in front of him twenty times.
He takes pains to carefully disassemble the forms to obtain a pictorial structure that seems to be formed by layers of overlapping transparent color blocks. The colors in the painting are only blue, ochre and gray-purple. Color plays only a secondary role here.
Although the corridor of Mr. Karnweiler's image can still be faintly visible in the interlacing of the ** bar and the block, it is difficult for people to judge the resemblance to the real person. Roland Penrose, the most famous expert on Picasso, once commented after seeing the painting: "Each side is divided into a plane, which causes the adjacent parts to be divided into another plane, so that it constantly moves backwards, constantly producing direct sensations, which remind one of the layers of ripples on the surface of the water."
The eye swims through these ripples and signs can be captured here and there, such as a nose, two eyes, some neatly combed hair, a watch chain, and a pair of crossed hands. But when the gaze turns from one point to another, it constantly feels the pleasure of swimming around on surfaces that are convincingly ...... their similaritiesWhen you see such a picture, you will have imagination; This picture, though ambiguous, seems to be real, and it is joyfully interpreted by the symmetry and harmony of life of this new reality. ”

Paul Gauguin ((Eugene-Henri-)Paul (1848-1903), along with Cézanne and Van Gogh, is one of the most famous representatives of "Later Impressionism" in the history of art. His paintings, initially influenced by Impressionism, soon abandoned Impressionism and moved towards the road of anti-Impressionism, pursuing the lines and bright colors of oriental painting. He traveled to Bretagne, a peninsula in northwestern France jutting out of the Atlantic Ocean, where he painted with Prophetic painters such as Bednar and Selyussle, and became a central figure in this "synthetist" painting group. >>>More
