Therefore, blood grouping must be done before blood transfusion. Normally, only people with the same ABO blood type can have blood transfusions with each other. In emergency situations where blood isotype blood is lacking, red blood cells of type O cannot be agglutinated and can be transfused to people of any other blood type.
People with type AB have no lectins in their serum and can accept any type of red blood cell.
