There is no contradiction, Yuan Longping is a Chinese national and was elected as a foreign academician of the American Academy of Sciences, and the Chinese Academy of Sciences also has many non-Chinese foreign academicians, most of whom are foreign Chinese who have academic cooperation with China.

Yuan Longping and Bai Chunli were elected as foreign academicians of the Academy of Fine Arts in the past, and this year Zhang Qiqi and Li Aizhen are elected.

Yuan Longping was officially inaugurated as a member of the American Academy of Sciences in 2007.
On April 29, 2007, Yuan Longping was officially inaugurated as a foreign member of the American Academy of Sciences in Washington, D.C., and attended the annual meeting of the Academicians of the American Academy of Sciences, which was attended by hundreds of top scientists from around the world, becoming the first scientist to be elected as an academician of the American Academy of Sciences among the academicians of the Chinese Academy of Engineering.
At the inauguration ceremony, President of the American Academy of Sciences Cethrona introduced the reasons for Academician Yuan Longping's election, saying: The hybrid rice technology invented by Mr. Yuan Longping has made outstanding contributions to world food security, and the increased grain production has solved the problem of feeding 70 million people in the world every year. Yuan Longping has created a miracle of mankind and is a real hero, a national treasure, and a treasure of mankind.
His election is well deserved.
Foreign members of the American Academy of Sciences:
With a long history of more than 140 years, the American Academy of Sciences is the world's top scientific academy. Every year, the American Academy of Sciences selects the most outstanding representatives of a certain scientific field in the world and scientists who have made great contributions to the cause of human science as foreign members of the Academy of Sciences.
In 2007, 18 top scientists in the world were named foreign academicians of the American Academy of Sciences, and Academician Yuan Longping and Mr. Bai Chunli, Executive Vice President of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, Academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, and a well-known nanotechnology expert in China, were jointly elected. At present, six Chinese scientists have been elected as foreign members of the American Academy of Sciences.

On April 25, 2006, the selection of foreign academicians of the American Academy of Sciences was announced, and Yuan Longping, a world-famous hybrid rice expert and academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering, was elected, becoming the first foreign academician of the American Academy of Sciences in China's agricultural science community. On April 29, 2007, Yuan Longping was officially inaugurated as a member of the American Academy of Sciences.
Mr. Cithero, a world-renowned scientist, Nobel laureate in chemistry, and president of the American Academy of Sciences, introduced the reason for the election of Academician Yuan Longping at the inauguration ceremony of the newly elected academician, saying: The hybrid rice technology invented by Mr. Yuan Longping has made outstanding contributions to world food security, and the increased grain production has solved the problem of feeding 70 million people in the world every year.
1. Yuan Longping took the lead in carrying out research on the utilization of rice heterosis in China. In the first article he wrote, "Male Infertility of Rice", he proposed: "If you want to use the heterosis of rice, the first recommendation is to use male infertility".
2. Yuan Longping solved three major problems in the research of three-line hybrid rice. First, the technical scheme of "distant hybridization between wild rice and cultivated rice" was proposed, and an effective way to cultivate male sterile lines was finally found, and the "three lines" of sterile lines, maintainer lines and restorer lines were realized in 1973.
3. Yuan Longping proposed the breeding development strategy of hybrid rice, that is, the method is from three lines to two lines and then to one line, and the procedure is getting simpler and more efficient. At the level of heterosis, the heterosis is used from interspecies to subspecies and then to distant relatives, and the advantages are getting stronger and stronger, which promotes hybrid rice to move to a new level step by step. This idea has been adopted by domestic and foreign counterparts and has become the guiding ideology for the development of hybrid rice breeding.

Yuan Longping was elected as a Foreign Member of the National Academy of Sciences in April 2006.
The National Academy of Sciences of the United States is not a first-class department, but a civil, non-profit, honorary autonomous organization of scientists, and there is no scientific research institution under it. The National Academy of Sciences is one of the four highest academic institutions in the United States (National Academy of Sciences, National Academy of Engineering, National Academy of Medicine, and National Natural Society).
Yuan Longping received an honorary doctorate from Macau University of Science and Technology in 2010, a Lifetime Achievement Award from the 4th China Poverty Eradication Award in 2013, and was elected as the first member of the China Association of Inventions in 2018. On September 8, 2018, he won the Life Science Award of the Future Science Prize; On December 18, 2018, Yuan Longping was awarded the title of Reform Pioneer and the Reform Pioneer Medal, and was awarded the pioneer of hybrid rice research. On September 17, 2019, ******* signed a presidential decree awarding Yuan Longping the "Order of the Republic".
Yuan Longping's main achievements.
Yuan Longping is committed to the research, application and promotion of hybrid rice technology, invented the "three-line method" indica hybrid rice, successfully researched the "two-line method" hybrid rice, and created a super hybrid rice technology system. And put forward and implemented the "Three Yields and Four Bumper Yield Project", using the technical achievements of super hybrid rice, published 6 monographs in Chinese and English, and published more than 60 articles.
Yuan Longping has been engaged in hybrid rice research for half a century, fearless of difficulties, willing to dedicate, painstakingly pursued, and made significant contributions to solving the problem of Chinese eating. His outstanding achievements not only belong to China, but also affect the world.

Yuan Longping is not an academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences。Yuan Longping is an academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering. Engineering academicians mainly focus on technical research, while scientific academicians mainly focus on basic scientific research, and both have their own division of labor.
One emphasizes theory and the other emphasizes practice. Yuan Longping won the highest national science and technology award in 2000. He is one of the winners of the first National Science and Technology Award.
He was also elected as a foreign member of the National Academy of Sciences in 2006, which was selected by Lao Mei.
The Chinese Academy of Sciences was established in 1949, while the Chinese Academy of Engineering was established in 1994. At the beginning of its establishment, in order to highlight the gold content of academicians of the Academy of Engineering, it was from the original academicians of the Academy of Sciences. A number of outstanding people were selected to be awarded the status of academicians of the Academy of Engineering.
Qian Xuesen's identity as an academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences and the Chinese Academy of Sciences also came from this. The Chinese Academy of Engineering was established at the suggestion of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, mainly to commend those who have made outstanding contributions to China's engineering technology.
First, Yuan Longping has passed the age of selecting academicians (65 years old), second, Yuan Longping has not published theories, and the selection of academicians needs a lot of theories, which is convenient for imparting knowledge, and third, the selection of academicians needs to be nominated by at least four people in the same major, and Yuan Longping's major cannot find four people to nominate together.
It is stipulated that in China, academician is the highest academic title in science and technology established by the state, and it is a lifelong honor. Academicians in China enjoy the academician allowance stipulated by the state of 200 yuan per month (tax exemption). The units where academicians belong also issue allowances to local academicians, and the amount of allowances issued ranges from 1,000 yuan to 5,000 yuan per month. >>>More
