The term "temporary cramming of Buddha's feet" originally came from the poem "Reading the Scriptures" by Meng Jiao in the Tang Dynasty: "Hanging old and holding Buddha's feet, teaching his wife to read the Yellow Scriptures." It means that only when you are old can you believe in Buddhism, in order to be blessed, and it means digging a well when you are thirsty.
Later, he did not prepare or work hard early on weekdays, and only hurriedly tried to try to do so when things were urgent, which was called "cramming Buddha's feet temporarily", and sometimes it was also said that "I didn't burn incense when I was free, but I came to hug Buddha's feet in a hurry". Speaking of "cramming", there is also a very interesting story. In ancient times, there was a small country in Yunnan, China, although the population of this country is not large, but the people are all Buddhists who believe in Shakyamuni.
On one occasion, a convict who had been sentenced to death broke his chains and flail in the middle of the night and escaped. In the early morning of the next day, when the government found out, it immediately sent soldiers to chase him around. The criminal had fled for a day and a night, exhausted, and seeing his pursuers approaching, he knew that it was impossible to escape, and in a hurry he crashed headlong into an ancient temple.
This temple houses a seated statue of Shakyamuni, a tall Buddha statue. When the criminal saw the Buddha statue, he suddenly felt deep remorse in his heart, so he cried loudly while holding the Buddha's feet, and kept kowtowing vigorously to express his repentance. The criminal kowtowed and kept saying:
The Buddha was merciful, and I knew that I was guilty and asked to be ordained a monk. From now on, I will never dare to do anything wrong! In a few moments, his head was broken, and he was covered in blood.
At this moment, the pursuers also arrived. When the soldiers saw this, they were moved by the criminal's devotion to Buddhism and sincere repentance, so they sent someone to the government to ask for forgiveness. When the government heard this, they did not dare to make decisions on their own, and immediately reported to the king.
The king believed in the Buddha, so he pardoned the criminal's capital crime and made him a monk.
