The reason why Chaling County celebrates the New Year on the 23rd day of the twelfth month of the lunar calendar is directly related to the Chen Danshu uprising during the Kangxi period.
Chen Danshu, a native of Yantanghui Town, is now a member of Yantanghui Town. It is said that he was a tried and tested scholar, and lived in seclusion in Lingyan all year round to study and practice martial arts. During his seclusion, he received instructions from the gods:
You Chen Danshu can't be proud of the field, but you can rebel and claim the king, but there is one condition, that is, you must fulfill the three miraculous things such as fish on the tree, people wearing iron hats, and bamboo shoots by the stove within one year.
After Chen Danshu received such an oracle, he was very happy, and then he secretly prepared while paying close attention. However, even if the preparations were very thorough, when the end of the year was approaching, none of these three things came true. Chen Danshu was in a hurry.
One day, on the way to the market, he accidentally saw a man who bought fish hanging fish on a tree, and a man who bought a big iron pot put the pot on his head, and realized that this was a fish on a tree and a man wearing an iron hat. He was very happy, thinking that the third thing would surely be fulfilled soon.
After waiting for a long time, the third thing has not been fulfilled. So he discussed with a few people: time waits for no one, it's about to be the New Year, what should I do?
The result of the discussion is that two of the three things have been fulfilled, and if the third thing cannot be fulfilled, let us let it be fulfilled ourselves: dig up a few bamboo shoots and bury them by the stove. In this way, Chen Danshu decided to launch an uprising.
After some intense preparations, Chen Danshu decided to start the army on 24 December, the day of the Lunar New Year, because during the festival, the officers and men will be much more relaxed in their precautions than usual, and it is easier to succeed. Sure enough, the rebel army passed all the way, and soon conquered Chaling and Anren, and the team marched all the way north, approaching Hengyang Jiangdong.
Unfortunately, during the assault on Changning, the rebel army failed. It is said that before the uprising, in order to take care of customs and habits, Chen Danshu secretly informed everyone to celebrate the New Year on the night of the 23rd. For the sake of secrecy, people did not dare to make a noise, and only after dark did they quietly celebrate the festival.
Therefore, from then on, the people of Chaling have the saying of "living a small year behind closed doors". After the failure of the uprising, in order to commemorate this hero, the time of the New Year was changed to the twenty-third night. This is the origin of the New Year's celebration in some areas on the 23rd night.

The Songkran legends of Xishuangbanna and Dehong Dai are all stories of "Seven Princesses Killing Fire Demons", but the Songkran legends of Huaping Dai are unique.
Legend has it that a long time ago, a Dai village living in the depths of the dense forest by the Jinsha River, because of the woods, the villagers were in danger of being engulfed in fire, a Dai man named Li Liang, in order to protect the village, not afraid of danger, rushed out of the fire net, picked up buckets of river water from the Jinsha River, and splashed the mountain fire.
After a day and a night of exertion, the fire was finally extinguished, and the villagers were saved. The villagers brought water to quench Li Liang's thirst, but he couldn't quench his thirst even after drinking ninety-nine waters. Later, Li Liang simply threw himself into the river, turned into a giant dragon, and went down the river.
Some say that he became a big tree.
In order to commemorate Li Liang, the people of the Dai nationality every year on the third day of the third lunar month, each house is cleaned up, sprinkled with green pine leaves, and in the selected riverside or well, with green trees to build a long half-mile-long green shed, sprinkled with thick pine needles under the shed, put a sink full of water on both sides, when the sun is at the top at noon, everyone walks through the shed, sprinkles each other with green pine dipping water, and splashes the auspicious and happy water on each other, expressing the nostalgia for Li Liang and the blessing of the New Year.
This activity has continued to this day and has become an auspicious festival for the Dai people to bid farewell to the old and welcome the new year - Songkran Festival.
