Xu Xiake, born on January 5, 1587, died on March 8, 1641, a native of the Ming Dynasty, climbed Yandang Mountain at the age of twenty-eight. He remembered that there was a big lake on the top of Yandang Mountain as mentioned in the ancient book, and decided to climb to the top of the mountain to have a look. When he climbed to the top of the mountain, he found that there was no lake at all.
However, Xu Xiake refused to give up and continued to walk to the cliff, with no way. He observed the cliff and found that there was a small platform below, and tied a cloth strap to the rock on the top of the cliff, and he grabbed the cloth strap and went down, and when he reached the small platform, he realized how deep it was and how deep it was, and there was no way to go down. He grabbed the cloth belt, kicked the cliff, and climbed up with difficulty.
The monks on the mountain were amazed to see him, because they had been trapped on the mountain for months by heavy snow. Xu Xiake's astonishing travels can indeed show that he is a strange person through the ages.

Xu. A native of Jiangyin, Jiangsu, he was born in 1578 into a family of bureaucratic landlords. Father Xu Youmian was indifferent to fame and fortune, attached himself to mountains and rivers, and often traveled to the great mountains and rivers of the motherland, which had a great impact on Xu Xiake's young mind.
Xu Xiake was very smart when he was a child, and he was well-read, especially like history and geography books.
In 1608, at the age of 22, Xu Xiake decided to travel. At that time, Xu Xiake had only one thought, that is, to "be poor inside and outside Kyushu, and explore the strange and secluded".
From the age of 22 to 56, Xu Xiake went out to investigate 16 times in a row and spent more than 30 years in the wild. His footprints are all over the country. Xu Xiake has traveled for more than 30 years, and every place he goes, he insists on recording the experiences and observed phenomena of the day.
Then, these materials are analyzed and sorted out, and then the laws of nature are analyzed, which opens up a new direction for modern geography to observe and understand nature. These records of what he saw and heard were preserved, and after his death, Ji Huiming compiled it into "Xu Xiake's Travels", a total of 20 volumes.
However, due to a long period of sleeping in the open and the arduous trek, the 51-year-old Xu Xiake finally fell ill on his last and longest trip to Yunnan. In the end, the Naxi brothers hired someone to send him back to his hometown. But even when he was sick, he still did not forget to put the rock specimens collected from the field in front of his hospital bed for study.
He spent his last time sorting out his records until his death in 1641.
Xu Xiake's Travels is a detailed record of what he has seen and heard in his 30-year travel career in the form of a diary, with a total of more than 60 million words, which is the first field investigation record in China and the earliest excellent geographical work in China, with both literary and scientific value. It has a great role in many modern disciplines, such as ethnology, meteorology, environmental science and the branches of geography - urban geography, agricultural geography, population geography, commercial geography and other disciplines to provide valuable information. In particular, the description of the karst landforms in the limestone area is 150 years earlier than the earliest description and investigation of the limestone landforms in Europe, and it is the world's earliest valuable information about the karst landforms, and is known as the "Book of Wonders through the Ages".
