All colors that can be perceived by vision have three properties: brightness, hue and purity, which are the most basic components of color.

Lightness. Brightness is the key to color structure. In achromatic, white is the color with the highest brightness, while black is the color with the lowest brightness, and there is a gray series from light to dark in between.

In color, any kind of purity has its own lightness characteristics. For example, yellow is the brightest color, and purple is the least luminous color. Since the brightness can be presented separately through the relationship between black, white and gray, it has strong independence among the three elements.

Hue. Hue is the primary characteristic of color. If illustration is the bone of color, then hue is the skin of color.

Hue embodies the extroverted character of color and is the soul of color. The hues in the spectrum are primitive colors, and they constitute the basic hues in the color system. In the visible spectrum, each hue of red, orange, yellow, green, blue, violet has its own wavelength and frequency, and each color has its own name.

Therefore, when you are in the name of a certain color, the color corresponding to the name will appear in your mind, which is the concept of hue.

Purity. Purity refers to how vivid a color is. When a specific color is mixed with white, its vividness decreases and the brightness increases; When mixed with black, its vividness decreases, and its sensitivity becomes darker; When mixed with neutral gray with the same brightness, the vividness decreases and the brightness does not change.

Different hues not only have different brightness, but also have unequal purity. Among the colors, the three primary colors red, yellow and blue are the highest purity colors, while the colors close to black, white and gray are the low purity colors. With the same hue, a change in purity will immediately bring about a change in color.

In the process of photography, the colors used are different, and the picture is presented differently. This kind of color presentation can not only be completed by the color of the subject itself, but also the photographer can also use certain shooting techniques to achieve a certain color effect.
