Ye Shi is a representative of the Yongjia school in philosophy, he holds a materialist viewpoint, opposes empty talk about sexual reason, advocates the "study of merit", attaches importance to business, advocates improving the status of businessmen, and his views are opposed to Zhu Xi and Lu Jiuyuan. In the creation of poems and essays, he inherited Han Yu's tradition of "going to Chen Yan" and "searching for words and files", striving to be novel and unconventional from the point of view to the text, advocating the spirit of originality, and advocating that "the semi-simple words must be unique, and the imitation of other works is not standardized" ("Preface to the Anthology of the Fool"). His writing is eloquent, talented and elegant, especially famous for the simplicity and thickness of the tablet.
He was dissatisfied with the Jiangxi poetry school's bizarre and blunt poetry style and the poetic style of "writing as poetry", and was inclined to the late Tang Dynasty, especially respecting the fluency and lightness of Yao He and Jia Dao. He was friendly with Xu Zhao, Xu Ji, Zhao Shixiu, Weng Juan and others of the "Yongjia Four Spirits" (see the Four Spirits), and published their poetry collections, and highly respected them, such as in the "Epitaph of Xu Wenyuan", it is said that "the words of the four people were extremely workmanlike, and Tang poetry was resumed". His poems "work hard to create an environment", "Yan is cold, so it is not greasy, light is born in refining, so it is not dry" ("Song Poems, Shuixin Poems").
The works are not limited to the five laws, more than five or seven words of the ancient, the subject matter is greater than the "four spirits" (Xu Zhao (the word Linghui), Xu Ji (the number Lingyuan), Weng Juan (the word Lingshu), Zhao Shixiu (the word Lingxiu)).
He is the author of 29 volumes of "Mr. Shuixin's Anthology", 16 volumes of "Other Collections", and the "Yongjia Series" and the "Four Serials" of Yingjiaye Tang Ming Liliang Magazine. In 1961, Zhonghua Book Company compiled and proofread the "Anthology" and "Other Collections" for the new edition of "Ye Shiji". There are also 50 volumes of "Records of Xi Xue", which compiles hundreds of schools of scripture and history, each of which is a discussion.
Ye Shi pays attention to the "study of utilitarianism" and believes that "if there is no utilitarianism, then those who leak the righteousness are useless empty words". He advocated "trade and benefiting workers, supporting merchants with the power of the state, and circulating currency" ("Study Notes"), and opposed the traditional policy of "emphasizing the basics and suppressing the last", that is, only emphasizing agriculture and despising industry and commerce. Emphasizing that the "Tao" exists in the things themselves, "where the things are, the Tao is in the Yan".
Matter is composed of qi, and the five elements and eight trigrams are all changes in the form of qi. He put forward the proposition of "one thing is two" and "one is different" about the unity of opposites of things, and believes that the opposites of things are in the process of dependence and transformation, but emphasizes "stopping at the mean". Cognitively, it advocates "using things for one's own use", and advocates the actual investigation of things to determine righteousness.
He opposed the empty talk and speculation of the rationality at that time, and boldly criticized the figures most admired by the physicists, such as Zengzi, Zisi, Mencius, etc. It was determined that "Ten Wings" was not written by Confucius, and pointed out that the theorists combined the ideas of Confucianism, Buddhism, and Taoism to put forward the fallacies of "Wuji" and "Taiji". He has made contributions to philosophy, historiography, literature, and political theory.
