A long history.
Huizhou has a long history and profound cultural accumulation, and has preserved a large number of traditional buildings and villages with similar forms and distinctive characteristics. The ancient villages in southern Anhui are not only ingeniously combined with the topography, landform, and landscape, but also the strong economic strength of the Hui merchants in the Ming and Qing dynasties to support their hometowns, and the culture and education are increasingly prosperous.
Uniqueness. The biggest difference between the ancient villages in southern Anhui and other villages is that the construction and development of ancient villages in southern Anhui are to a considerable extent free from dependence on agriculture. The consciousness, lifestyle and taste of the residents of the ancient villages greatly surpassed the ideological consciousness of the peasants and the general citizen class, and pursued the same as the literati and the people of southern Anhui.
The official eunuch class has the same interest in life, so it has a strong cultural atmosphere. On the basis of the basic stereotype, the ancient village dwellings in southern Anhui adopt different decoration techniques, build small courtyards, dig pools, place leaky windows, skillfully set up bonsai, carve beams and paint buildings, inscribe orchid plaques, and create an elegant living environment, all of which reflect the high cultural quality and artistic accomplishment of local residents. Village site selection The site selection and construction of ancient villages in southern Anhui follow the Zhouyi feng shui theory with a history of more than 2,000 years, emphasizing the ideal realm of the unity of nature and man and the full respect for the natural environment, focusing on the dual needs of material and spiritual, with a scientific foundation and a high aesthetic concept.
The architectural characteristics of the ancient villages in southern Anhui were developed with the prosperity of the Hui merchants in the Ming and Qing dynasties, and they can reflect the exquisite conception and superb craftsmanship to the greatest extent in the limited architectural space, which is actually a unique architectural form. Later, the Hui merchants gradually declined, but the architectural characteristics of this Hui style of dwellings were retained because they were attached to the ancient dwelling villages, so they have important historical value and architectural value.
Position and honor in this paragraph.
The ancient villages in southern Anhui are located in the territory of ancient Huizhou (now Huangshan City, Anhui Province, Jixi, Wuyuan, Jiangxi), Xidi and Hongcun are the two most representative ancient dwellings, and they are also the typical representatives of the late culture of Chinese feudal society——— carrier of Huizhou culture, which embodies the characteristics of Huizhou houses with exquisite craftsmanship, and the village form is well preserved and the scenery is beautiful. Since ancient times, the village has respected Confucianism, emphasized education, and flourished in literary style, which embodies the Huizhou cultural phenomenon that reached its peak in the Ming and Qing dynasties, such as the feudal ethical culture of Cheng Zhu Lixue, the patriarchal culture of gathering clans, the feng shui culture in the construction of villages, and the Huizhou merchant culture of Jia and Confucianism, so the historical and cultural connotation is profound. In 1999, at the 24th session of the UNESCO World Heritage Committee, two ancient houses in Xidi and Hongcun in Yixian County, Anhui Province were listed as World Cultural Heritage for their well-preserved traditional features, which is the second time that the natural and cultural landscape of Huangshan City has been listed in the World Cultural Heritage List, and it is also the second city in China to have more than two World Heritage sites at the same time after Beijing, and it is also the first time in the world that the dwellings have been included in the World Heritage List.
