From 1901 to 1913, Zhang Jian successively set up a number of new enterprises in the Haimen area of Nantong, initially forming an enterprise system centered on the Dasheng cotton textile industry enterprises, and entering the stage of comprehensive development.

During this period, in addition to expanding the Dasheng Yarn Factory and building the Dasheng Branch Factory in Xinsuipei, Zhang Jian also founded 22 enterprises such as Tonghai Reclamation Company, Tongrentai Salt Industry Company, and Dada River Steamship Company. The period from 1918 to 1921 was the four years in which the development of the Dasheng system enterprise was the fastest. Years of prosperity and high profits prompted Zhang Jian to speed up the pace of industrial expansion.

Starting from 1914, he prepared for the construction of Dasheng No. 3 Factory in Haimen, and drew up a huge plan to establish No. 4 Factory in Siyangba, No. 5 Factory in Tianshenggang, No. 6 Factory in Dongtai, No. 7 Factory in Rugao, No. 8 Factory in Nantong Jiangjiaqiao, and No. 9 Factory in Wusong. In 1924, the Ji people were blind and gave birth.

Zhang Jian founded more than 20 enterprises and more than 370 schools in his lifetime, and many schools and institutions were the first in the country at that time. His contribution to the cause of national industry and education is known as the "champion industrialist".

At that time, Zhang Jian already had a clear and avant-garde planning concept for the construction of Nantong, including a garden city combined with Western architectural concepts. The practice of these concepts has made Nantong praised by Wu Liangyong, a modern architect and professor at Tsinghua University, as "the first city in modern China". [50]
