Whether it's a package or a port, when you install software that needs to rely on other software to continue installing, they will automatically install the software for you. All installed software will be recorded in var db pkg, and if we want to remove the software in the future, we can use a simple command pkg delete with the name of the software.

Pros of package:

A compiled zip file is usually smaller than the file containing the source code.

If you have a slow computer, you can save a lot of time when installing large software like KDE, GNOME, etc.

When you use a package to install software, you don't have to know the software and the process used to compile on FreeBSD in advance.

Pros of ports:

In order to be executed on most computers, package is usually compiled conservatively for compatibility reasons. With Ports, you can modify it according to your system, for example by choosing to use a Pentium III or Athlon's processor.

When compiling the package, the functionality of the software has been limited, and it can no longer be expanded according to your own needs. For example, the Apache software has a lot of features that can be hooked in at compile time, and you can modify it according to your needs when installing it using ports.

We can use newer software by updating the port tree, whereas packages are usually only released with the system.

With the source code, you can modify and apply it yourself.

First of all, create a new virtual machine in VMware Workstation, and do not install the system for the time being.
