The origin of the toro cake?
Su Dongpo was exiled to Huizhou, and during the period of changing to Danzhou, Hainan, he had a close correspondence with his younger brother Su Zhe, who was resettled in Leizhou and moved to another state, and he missed him deeply.
On the eve of the Mid-Autumn Festival in the second year of Yuanfu (1099), Su Shi thought of his younger brother and crossed the sea from Hainan, bringing Hainan special coconut to Huazhou to reunite with Su Zhe. On the day of the Mid-Autumn Festival, Su Zhe's wife bought back the local pig pork belly from the market and made the pork belly with the secret curing method of Huazhou. Then he took the coconut meat brought by Su Shi from Hainan and made it into shreds, and then took out the villagers to give it to himself, and the nuts that he had been reluctant to eat were fried and crispy.
Then the marinated pork belly is grilled over charcoal until fragrant and diced (because this kind of barbecued meat is roasted with an iron fork, the meat has a unique aroma, and later became a famous traditional barbecued pork in Huazhou) and shredded coconut, nuts, pomelo peel and a small amount of spices are used to make the filling.
At dinner, Su Zhe's wife took out the prepared baked cakes to Su Dongpo and Su Zhe's brothers. Su Dongpo took a baked cake and ate it, when he ate the second bite, Su Dongpo slowed down the action of chewing the baked cake, Su Zhe asked the eldest brother what was going on, Su Dongpo said: "This baked cake tastes mixed with the unique aroma of roast meat and the light orange fragrance of the roast crust in the thick coconut fragrance, showing a feeling of full fragrance and endless aftertaste."
After listening to Su Zhe's random patting, he brought a baked cake and tasted it, and sure enough, as Su Dongpo said, the fragrance of this cake is very unique, which is beyond the reach of other cakes.
Su Dongpo said that this was the most delicious cake he had eaten from north to south in his life, so he called Su Zhe a name. Su Zhe thought of the ups and downs of his eldest brother's life, because of the "Wutai Poetry Case", the court was repeatedly degraded for the crime of snares, and his wish was that the eldest brother could be rehabilitated and return to the Central Plains as soon as possible to reunite with his family. Thinking of this, Su Zhe said, "I hope that the eldest brother can drag away the snare and get Zhaoxue, and our brothers will gather on the side of the Luojiang River to celebrate the Mid-Autumn Festival, so let's call it 'Tuoluo Cake'."
Su Dongpo laughed and said: "The name is good, the name is auspicious, tonight I will take the 'Tuoluo Cake' to enjoy the moon and celebrate the Mid-Autumn Festival!" After speaking, Su Dongpo took advantage of the opportunity to pick up the pen and ink and inscribed the three big characters "Tuoluo Cake".
Since then, every year in the Mid-Autumn Festival, the people of Huazhou have put on the tuoluo cake to commemorate Su Dongpo and Su Zhe brothers.
