Keith Smart Smart has taken over the reins of Nelson Sr. as the new head coach of the Warriors. The story of his study of Lucas was rumored to be a good story. In fact, Smart has been like a sponge throughout his coaching career, constantly learning from the famous coaches around him.
In recent years, Smart has studied with the likes of Lucas, Bobby Knight and Don Nelson, and his coaching experience has been accumulated bit by bit. Although he didn't achieve much success as a player, he is confident that he can make a career as a coach. "You should never underestimate yourself.
Smart often told himself, "I see myself as an NBA manager, and I think I'm up to the task." In recent years, Smart has been responsible for leading the team in training, coaching training matches and summer league competitions, training camps and pre-game preparation training, and people can also see Smart's hard work. In fact, in 2003, Smart was the head coach of the Cavaliers, but in 40 games in charge, he led the team to a 9-31 record.
However, this did not affect his self-confidence in coaching. "Jim Paxson once said to me, 'I hope this experience with the Cavaliers doesn't hurt you and you're going to get another chance to coach in the future.' And I said to Paxson, don't worry about me, because it helped me to be more aware of what the manager does.
Now, Smart finally has a chance to make a name for himself as the Warriors' head coach. He has many outstanding players such as Stephen Curry, Monta Ellis, and David Lee under his command this season. Now it's time for him to put into practice what he's learned.
He [Smart] is already ready for the job of manager. "He's been able to read the game very well, and he's spent the last four years preparing to be a head coach one day, and now the moment has finally come." Smart said that although he studied under Nelson Sr., his tactical system is more structured than that of his master, and his rotation lineup, tactics, player use arrangements will be the same, and more importantly, he will focus more on the team's defense.
