The history and story of the Longmen Grottoes are as follows:
The dragon gate was dug by Dayu in the water, and the legend of the fish leaping over the dragon gate also occurred here. Its grottoes were excavated in the period of Emperor Xiaowen of the Northern Wei Dynasty, flourished in the Tang Dynasty, and finally ended in the Qing Dynasty. After more than 10 dynasties, it has been built for more than 1,400 years, making it the longest grotto in the world.
It was built with a lot of paint, and most of it has faded today.
Densely spread on the cliffs of the east and west mountains of Yishui, up to 1 kilometer from north to south, there are 2,345 existing cave niches, more than 110,000 statues, and Mogao Grottoes, Yungang Grottoes are called the three major grottoes in China, and the Maijishan Grottoes are called the four major grottoes in the back.
Legend has it that during that flood period, both Luoshui and Yishui were blocked, forming a large ocean, similar to a dammed lake, and of course the scale formed during that period was much larger than the dammed lake.
The people were in dire straits, and many were drowning. Dayu even suffered from floods, so he led the people to dredge Luoshui first, so that it was injected into the Yellow River, and Yishui was blocked in Longmen Mountain, so the Longmen Mountain was chiseled so that Yishui and Luoshui converged into the Yellow River, thus solving the flooding here.
