Bingxin's four poems are selected from "Stars" and "Spring Water". This is a collection of poems from Bingxin's May Fourth period. Written in 1921 and 1922, they are all very short poems.
It is a record of the poet's momentary inspiration, and the poems are about the love of mother, innocence, man, nature, and God, as well as the understanding of death, eternal life, darkness, sorrow, silence, and pessimism, and some incomprehensible mystery. From the 20s to the 30s, Bingxin's poems have changed significantly, gradually moving from the ivory tower of personal emotions to the bleak real world in terms of content, and to the disaster-ridden motherland and people; In terms of form, it has changed from "fragmented articles" to continuous lyricism, and the rhythm, rhyme, and sex are deliberately pursued, and many poems have the rhythmic style of Crescent poems.
In the early summer of 1923, Bingxin graduated from Yenching University with honors, received the Golden Key - "Fei Tophi" honorary degree, and accepted a scholarship from Yenching Women's University's sister school, Wellesley Woman's University in the United States, to study in the United States. On August 17, 1923, Bingxin left Rongle and Mei's family and sailed to the United States. The life away from home made Bingxin extremely distressed.
Paper Boat - Sending Mother was written in a Pacific boat. The idea of the poem is to place the nostalgia for her mother in the innocent act of recovering her childlike innocence: she folds up into many small paper boats and throws them into the sea.
