Normally, it is difficult for children to play with other children before the age of 3 and a half. Many of our parents are worried about their children's withdrawn or unsociable personalities. The development of children's social play, like other cognitions of children, has its own unique laws of development and sequence of development.

Social play refers to the play that children play in their social interactions with playmates. There is no significant difference in the nature of these three perspectives, and we can see that children become more socially involved in play as they get older. Therefore, we usually divide social play in childhood into solo play, parallel play, joint play and cooperative play.

Solitary play refers to children playing alone, even in the presence of other people, without any contact with them, and children engage in different play activities, which occur between the ages of 2 and 2 and a half. Just like Chengcheng and Bubbles playing on a slide and an ocean ball in a playground, everyone plays with different things, and there is no communication between them.

Parallel play is when children engage in similar play together, but without social interaction with each other, and usually occurs between the ages of 2 and a half to 3 years. When playing alone, children play different contents, but in parallel games, children play the same or similar content, and their game content and game methods can affect each other.

As a result, children in parallel play are more socially engaged than in solo play. Psychologists also distinguish between parallel play and parallel consciousness play: parallel play is when children participate in similar activities together but do not pay attention to each other's actions, while if children participate in similar activities together and also make eye contact and know about the existence of other children, it is parallel mind play.

For example, Chengcheng noticed the bubble under the persuasion of his mother, and then sat on the opposite side of the bubble and played a game of building blocks, which can be classified as a parallel consciousness game.

Joint play usually occurs between the ages of 3 and 1/2 and 4 and 1/2 years, and children play together and behave in relation to each other, but do not cooperate with each other. For example, when Chengcheng and Bubbles grow up, they will communicate with each other because of the materials when they build blocks together, but this kind of union is only the interaction of peers, and they do not play for a common goal, and this kind of social interaction is still relatively low-level.
