What does Taoism have to do with Tujia culture?

When the Tujia Master holds a vow, he should hang the picture of the Three Qing Heavenly Venerables on the altar. When the ritual of chasing souls is held, the statues of the three Qing gods are also hung. Among the gods it enshrines, there are also the Three Yuan Emperors and many immortals.

In its incantations, there are often Taoist laws that always exist, and I am executed by the edict of the Taishang Laojun. It can be seen that Taoism is very strong. Among the Tujia people, there are also Huoju Taoist priests, commonly known as Mr., whose religious activities are mainly based on folk Taoist elements, and incorporate elements of Buddhism and Tujia traditional religion.

Its Taoist priests are divided into two types: those who have left the division and those who have not left the division. A Taoist priest who has passed the Dharma transmission ceremony must go through the Dharma transmission ceremony before he is qualified to preside over religious ceremonies alone, and do large-scale Dharma rituals such as burying the dead, beating Jiao, offering sacrifices, and recommending the deceased. Taoist priests who have not yet graduated from the school can only do small rituals such as setting up a house and town, receiving the dragon and the right vein, confessing and sending ghosts to settle down.

1. Different attitudes towards life and death.

The goal pursued by Buddhism is "nirvana", liberation from the cycle of birth and death. Taoism has a positive, positive attitude towards life in general.

2. Origins and beliefs are different.

Buddhism was born more than 2,500 years ago and was founded by Siddhartha Gautama, the son of the Kapilavi prince of ancient India, and Western countries generally believe that Buddhism originated in India. Taoism denies fatalism and believes that people have a destiny, but does not encourage people to resign themselves to fate, but hopes that people create a destiny.

Taoism is the native religion of China, with "Tao" as the highest faith. Taoism believes that the Taoist scriptures are taught to the famous people by the gods through the pen of the immortals, and then they spread the sermons to the people of the world.

The only indigenous sect in China is Taoism.

Taoism is the only indigenous religion in China. It was formed in the Eastern Han Dynasty, which can be traced back to ancient times at the earliest, and became popular in the Northern and Southern Dynasties. Taoists respect one of the founders, Zhang Daoling, as the Heavenly Master, so it is also called "the Tao of the Heavenly Master".

Later, it divided into many factions. Taoism regards Lao Tzu as the ancestor and respectfully calls him "Taishang Laojun".

Because the "Tao" is the highest belief, it is believed that the "Tao" is the origin of all things in the universe, hence the name. The "Five Buckets of Rice Dao" founded by Zhang Daoling in the Eastern Han Dynasty was the beginning of the stereotyping of Taoism. During the Northern and Southern Dynasties, religious forms were gradually completed.

Worship Lao Dan as the ancestor, and be honored as "Taishang Laojun". At the end of the Jin Dynasty and the beginning of the Yuan Dynasty, the Quanzhen faction that majored in Neidan was developed, and the Zhengyi faction, which originally majored in talisman spells, were the two major factions of Taoism.

The Tao Te Ching (i.e., Lao Tzu), the Zhengyi Jing and the Taiping Cave Jing are the main classics. Worship Sanqing as the highest god, and take the Tao as the highest faith.

The first national Taoist temple of Taoism was located in the Shangqing Palace in Luoyang.

A: Taoism first emerged as a folk religion. The so-called folk religion refers to a religion that is not recognized by the ruling class, is not allowed to be preached publicly, and can only be secretly circulated among the people, so it is also called a secret folk religion.

Early Taoism, such as Zhang Jiao's Taiping Dao and Zhang Ling's Wudou Rice Dao, were popular among the lower classes of the people and were not recognized by the ruling class, so they were both folk religions.

It has taken a long time for Taoism to evolve from a folk religion to an official religion that represents the interests of the ruling class and is recognized by the ruling class. This evolution began during the Wei and Jin dynasties. Ge Hong, a Taoist priest of the Eastern Jin Dynasty, laid a theoretical foundation for official Taoism, and in his book "Hug Puzi", he tried his best to denounce the primitive Taoism of the people, and in order to meet the needs of the upper-class rulers, he theoretically summarized and developed the idea of Taoist immortals becoming immortals, and put forward the proposition that the health of immortals should be the inner and the Confucianism should be the outside.

Subsequently, Lu Xiujing and Kou Qianzhi of the Northern and Southern Dynasties set out to transform and rectify the Wudou Rice Dao, "remove the three pseudo-laws", and on this basis, they established the Northern and Southern Heavenly Master Dao. At this point, Taoism officially evolved into the official religion of the rulers.

The evolution of Taoism from a folk religion to an official religion is not to say that it has nothing to do with folk religion. In fact, Taoism is not only closely related to the new folk secret religions that emerged later, but also has many branches of Taoism that circulate among the people. For example, Li Jiadao is one of them, it was transmitted from Shu to Jiangnan during the reign of Emperor Wu (222-252), and later from the Eastern Jin Dynasty to Sui, and the "Li Hong" uprising throughout the country for more than 200 years, all of which have a certain relationship with the spread of this Taoist school among the people.

After the Tang and Song dynasties, Taoism flourished for a time under the vigorous support of the rulers, but it was still related to folk religion. During the Southern Song Dynasty, many new factions that diverged from the old "Three Mountains Fugong" were mostly circulated among the people. Some of the new Taoist schools that emerged in the north during the Jin and Yuan dynasties were also originally spread among the people.

Take the famous Quanzhen Dao as an example, its founder Wang Chongyang cultivated the Tao in Zhongnan Mountain in the Jin Dynasty, and until a few years after Wang Chongyang's death, the Quanzhen Dao was only circulated among the people and was not recognized by the rulers.

During the Ming and Qing dynasties, many secret religions appeared in society. Starting from the emergence of Luozu Sect during the Zhengde period of the Ming Dynasty (1506-1521), there were dozens of folk sects in society by the end of the Ming Dynasty. During the Qing Dynasty, there were hundreds of sects and societies of all kinds, the vast majority of which were not recognized by the rulers, but were regarded as dangerous alien forces.

Some sects were officially recognized but later abandoned because they did not meet the needs of the rulers. Many folk religions that appeared in the Ming and Qing dynasties were more or less influenced by Taoism, such as Huangtianjiao, Trinity, Mixed Yuanjiao, Hongyangjiao, Yuandun Sect, Bagua Sect, Yizhuxiang Sect, Jindan Sect, Huangya Sect, etc., which were particularly deeply influenced by Taoism. The Boxer Rebellion, which emerged at the end of the Qing Dynasty, was also influenced by Taoism.

Therefore, some people believe that folk religion was originally basically derived from Taoism.
