October is the traditional festival of the Hani people in Honghe Hani and Yi Autonomous Prefecture in Yunnan Province and Hani and Yi Autonomous County in Jiangcheng. It is also known as the "American Leader Zarett" festival. It begins on the first day of the tenth lunar month and lasts for five to six days, up to half a month.
According to the habits of the clan, every morning and dinner before dinner during the New Year's Festival, every family should use a dustpan to carry three Gu wine, three bowls of water, and three rice balls to the entrance of the village to offer wine, indicating that they are paying tribute to their ancestors. The hospitable Hani people also invite the "cow family" and "horse family" of other ethnic groups in the vicinity to come to the house as guests, and send a piece of big baba and cured meat when they go back, and the guests must accept it, otherwise they will be considered not friends enough. In some places, starting from the third day of the New Year's Festival, for three consecutive days, the whole village is divided into three groups according to the households, and the grand "Ziwudu" activities are held in turn, and the whole village will drink happy and happy wine. When the sun is in the west, it is the turn of the customer's man to bring the delicious food to the "center of the street" with a small dustpan to the "center of the street" in the sound of gongs and drums, and place them on the long mat that has already been laid out.
At the beginning of Ziwudu, a pair of "Ah Wo" elected by the masses sat above the banquet, and then the men in charge of all households in the village sat cross-legged around the banquet. When "Ah Wo" said a few words of congratulations, everyone let out bursts of shouts of "sand" and "harvest", indicating that they were bidding farewell to the old and welcoming the new, and congratulating on the bumper harvest of grains. Immediately afterwards, during the banquet, an elder held a drum hammer in his hand, rhythmically beating the cowhide drum, * gong accompaniment, two "Ah Wo" hand cranked palm fans, and danced from the table to the dancers, and from near to far a pair danced in the cheers of "sand" and "harvest".
