In terms of self-benefit in its causes, "Shiyin" can refer to the "smelling nature" of the bodhisattva; In terms of altruism, "Shiyin" specifically refers to the sound of prayer and supplication of all sentient beings that we hear. Taken together, each name has both the dual meaning of compassion and cause and effect.

This is in line with the basic principles of the bodhisattva path; The merit of cultivating self-interest is to achieve altruistic causes; To do altruistic business is to make meritorious deeds for solemn self-interest.
