Barite is one of China's important advantageous minerals, China's barite resources are abundant, reserves and production are the world's first, but also the world's largest barite exporter, occupies an important position in the international market.
1. Reserves, basic reserves, and identified resources.
By the end of 2011, the total identified resource reserves of the country were 10,000 tons, of which the basic reserves were 10,000 tons (reserves of 10,000 tons), the resources were 10,000 tons, and the relative density of reserves, basic reserves and resources in the total identified resource reserves was ,,。
Second, the distribution of resources.
By the end of 2011, there were 220 mining areas with proven barite reserves in China, widely distributed in 25 provinces (regions) across the country (Figure 1-1). Guizhou Province has the largest identified resource reserves of barite mine, accounting for the total of the country, followed by Hunan (Guangxi, Gansu (Shaanxi) and Zhejiang (and other provinces (regions), and the total identified resource reserves of the above six provinces (regions) account for more than 86% of the national total.
3. Genetic type and metallogenic age.
The types of barite deposits are mainly sedimentary (such as Guizhou Tianzhu, Hunan Gongxi, Guangxi Banbi, Hubei Liulin Barite Mine, etc.), accounting for 60% of the total reserves. In addition, there are volcanic-sedimentary types (e.g., Jingtieshan associated barite mine in Gansu Province), stratigraphically controlled endogenous type (Nanzhuangping, Hubei), hydrothermal type (Pancun, Xiangzhou County, Guangxi), and residual slope type (Shuiling mine, Guangdong) (Fig. 1-2).
The metallogenic age is dominated by the Paleozoic, and barite deposits were also formed in the Sinian and Meso-Cenozoic, mainly concentrated in the Cambrian, Devonian, Ordovician and Mesozoic strata.
Fourth, scale, taste.
China's barite deposits are mainly large and medium-sized, and only the Tianzhu River in Guizhou and the Xinhuang Gongxi in Hunan account for more than half of the large and medium-sized production reserves, and there are many co-owned and associated mineral reserves, which are conducive to comprehensive utilization. The main large deposits are often dominated by a single barite type, which is a layered barite deposit.
The ore quality of barite ore in China is good, and the ore in most mining areas is medium and high grade, and only 15% of the ore grade is less than 50%.
5. Occurrence characteristics of ore body.
The barite ore body in China is mainly moderately thick and gently inclined layered, followed by vein. Open-pit mining is the mainstay, and the proportion of underground mining is not large.
6. Characteristics of barite ore beneficiation and utilization.
The beneficiation methods of barite include manual separation, gravity separation, magnetic separation, and flotation (Table 1-2).

Table 1-2 Beneficiation methods of barite.
In general, China's barite minerals have several obvious characteristics, first, China's barite mines are mainly distributed in the central region, accounting for about 70%; Second, almost all the rich ores are mainly concentrated in Guizhou, Hunan and Guangxi, and the deposits are mainly large and medium-sized, and only the two mineral fields of Guizhou Tianzhu River and Hunan Xinhuanggongxi account for more than half of the large and medium-sized production reserves; Third, there are many co-owned and associated barite deposits, although many of them have no value of separate mining, but they are conducive to comprehensive utilization or incidental mining as a by-product of the production process.
