The scope of Kyushu described in the "Yu Gong" is the Yanshan Mountains, Bohai Bay and Liaodong in the north, the South China Sea in the south, the Western Regions in Gansu in the west, and the East China Sea in the east. Kyushu was also a kind of planning for the future unification of the country by scholars at that time, reflecting one of their political ideals.

The name of Kyushu has been around for a long time. Literally, the word "state" is written as "a" in the golden text, just like the shape of the highlands (hills) surrounded by rivers. ”

It can be seen that its original intention should be slightly the same as the word "continent" in "in the river island" in the "Book of Songs, Wang Feng, Guan Ju", and has nothing to do with administrative divisions. In ancient times, there was abundant rainfall, and people often lived on high hills near the water. Therefore, "Zhou" has become the name of the residential area, so there are "Xiazhou", "Rongzhou", "Pingzhou", "Yangzhou", "Waizhou", "Guazhou", "Shuzhou", "Zuozhou Bing", just like "Shangqiu", "Yongqiu", "Zuoqiujia" and so on.

The meaning of the word "nine" is twofold: one is to refer to, such as the "nine" of "in eight years, nine princes"; The first is the imaginary finger, which means a lot, such as "nine mountains", "nine rivers", "nine ze", "nine servals", "nine plains" and so on. Since the "state" is a very small geographical existence, "the vast traces of Yu are painted as Kyushu".

And "nine" may be a definite finger, not a false one. Therefore, in its original meaning, "Kyushu" refers to the general term of nine large geographical and cultural divisions, and it is also the general name of many highlands (hills) surrounded by rivers; Because of people, it is also extended to the name of "the whole country", which is like "the world" and "the four seas".

Later, "Kyushu" was finally concretized into nine large administrative divisions. Because in the existing documents, the specific "Kyushu" is only found in the Warring States period, but not in the Spring and Autumn Period, so its time may be in the early Warring States period. Although "Yu Gong" is named Dayu, it is actually a work in the late Warring States period.
