Original text of the work. Li Heng made a house on the Panzhou in Longyang, Wuling, and planted thousands of sweet orange trees. When he was dying, he said:
There are thousands of wooden slaves in Wuzhou, and they don't blame you for food and clothing, and a silk can be used every year. "At the end of Wu, the sweet orange became a thousand horses of silk. Heng called Taishi Gong's so-called "Jiangling Thousand Trees Orange, and Thousand Household Marquis".
Fan Zhong wanted to make utensils, first planted catalpa and lacquer, and people sneered at it. However, with the accumulation of years, they are all useful, and those who laugh at them are salty and ask for falsehood. This kind of colonization is a last resort. As the proverb goes: "A year's plan is like a valley of trees; A ten-year plan is like a tree. That's right.
Annotated translations. Li Heng built a house on the sandbar in Longyang, Wuling, and planted a thousand citrus trees. When he was dying, he admonished his son:
I have a thousand tree slaves in the sandbank, and they don't require you to provide clothes or food, but each wood slave creates a silk for you every year, and that's enough for you. "In the last years of the Wu Kingdom, citrus grows, and the value of thousands of horses of silk can be obtained every year. This is the famous saying of Ma Qian, the Taishi company, which is often mentioned: "Whoever grows a thousand citrus trees in the Gangneung area can have the same wealth as a thousand marquis."
Fan Chong wanted to make utensils, so he planted catalpa trees and lacquer trees in advance, and people at that time laughed at him. However, after a few years, all the trees planted came in handy. Those who used to laugh at him borrowed wood and lacquer from him.
This shows that planting must not be abandoned. The proverb says: "A year's plan is like a valley of trees; A ten-year plan is like a tree.
That's what it means.
