The difference between other, the other, another and others

1) Be pronouns.

Example: i don't like this one .please show me another .I don't like this one, please give me another one.

2) Make adjectives.

Example: I will be back in another ten daysI'll be back in a dozen days.

These indefinite pronouns are not only singular and plural in meaning, but also in their usage, which are generally referred to (without the) and specifically (with the). The differences in their usage can be summarized as follows:

1.When referring to the singular, if it refers to another in general, if it specifically refers to the other (followed by the singular noun):

give me another (one).Give me another one.

shut the other eye, please.Please close your other eye as well.

2.When referring to the plural, if it refers to the other (followed by the plural noun), if it specifically refers to the other (followed by the plural noun):

there are other ways of doing it.There are other ways to do this.

where are the other students?Other classmates are in **?

3.others always means the plural and cannot be followed by nouns. Its usage is roughly equivalent to "other + plural noun", and similarly the others is roughly equivalent to "the other plural noun":

other people [others] may not think that way.Others may not think so.

he is cleverer than the others [the other students] in her class.He was smarter than the rest of the class.

4.Another can generally only receive the number of forms, and the following nouns can only receive the number of single nouns. However, if it is followed by a number or a few modification, it can also be followed by a plural noun:

i shall stay another few months.I will stay for a few more months.

they’ll give you another thousand dollars.They will also give you a thousand dollars.

5.When used in contrast to some, use others (synonymous with some in this case):

some say yes, and others say no.Some say it's right, some say it's not.
