Brief Analysis] Nostalgic poetry is a dialogue between man and history. After Du Fu entered Shu, he had a soft spot for Zhuge Liang's talent for helping the world, which was a nostalgic poem he made on Zhuge Liang's ruins shortly after he arrived in Kuizhou (now Fengjie County, Chongqing City). "Romance of the Three Kingdoms: The Biography of Zhuge Liang" said that the master "deduced the art of war and made eight formations", but there are different opinions on where its ruins are.
The eight arrays on the beach of the Yangtze River in the south of Yong'an Palace in Fengjie County are particularly famous because of this Du poem. The poem praises Zhuge Liang's world-class exploits in the struggle between Wei, Shu and Wu to establish the foundation of the Shu State. Correspondingly, the eight formations he laid on the beach of the Yangtze River made his reputation even more outstanding.
The Eight Formations are a battle formation composed of eight formations: heaven, earth, wind, clouds, dragons, tigers, birds, and snakes. In the summer, the flood washed away, and these stone piles also stood still, so there is a sentence of "the river flows and the stones do not turn", which also symbolizes Zhuge Liang's loyalty and fame through the ages.
However, leaving the Eight Arrays here as a rescue measure for Liu Bei's defeat and return to Wu is really not in line with Zhuge Liang's strategic thinking of uniting Wu to resist Wei, so it is not only a historical witness of Zhuge becoming famous, but also a historical legacy of failing to complete the great cause of reunification. The sentence "hatred and loss swallowing Wu" has a difference in interpretation due to the polysemy of Chinese characters. "Dongpo Zhilin" records that Su Shi once dreamed that Du Fu said to him:
Many people in the world misunderstand my poem "Eight Arrays", thinking that the ancestor (Liu Bei) and Wuhou (Zhuge Liang) want to take revenge on Guan Gong, so they can't destroy Wu, no. I mean that it is the country of Wu Shu's lips and teeth, not a picture. Jin Zhi can take Shu, and Shu has the ambition to swallow Wu.
Take this as a hate. Du Fu used the eight arrays to think about Zhuge Liang's fame and resentment, and Su Shi used dreams to interpret the mystery in Du Fu's thinking, and they are all ** a "flawed glory" in history.

When comprehending poetry, it is necessary to think outside of conventional grammatical conventions.
The "Three Divisions" is a temporary collocation in order to compete with the "Eight Formations". It actually means "Three Kingdoms", and the Han Dynasty is divided into three, which refers to the historical stage. Then, "merit covers three countries" is equivalent to saying "merit covers the three kingdoms (heroes)", and its merit is better than anyone else during the period of the establishment of the Three Kingdoms.

"The merit covers three parts of the country, and the name becomes the eight arrays", these two sentences praise Zhuge Liang's great achievements. The first sentence is written from the general aspect, saying that Zhuge Liang has made the most outstanding achievements in the process of establishing the situation of Wei, Shu and Wu being divided into three parts of the world and standing on their own. There are many factors in the formation of the coexistence of the Three Kingdoms, and Zhuge Liang assisted Liu Bei to create the foundation of Shu from scratch, which should be said to be one of the important reasons.
