This story was written in 1837 and published in a small collection with another fairy tale written in the same year, The Daughter of the Sea. Hans Christian Andersen was only 32 years old at this time, the third year after he began to write fairy tales (he only started writing fairy tales when he was 30 years old). But from this fairy tale, we can see how profound Andersen's observation of society is.
Here he exposes how vain, extravagant and, above all, stupid the ruling class, led by the emperor, is. Seeing their characteristics, they asked, "No incompetent person or foolish person can see this garment." "Of course they can't see it, because they don't have any clothes at all.
But they were weak in heart, and they were afraid that people would find out that they were incompetent and stupid, so they praised in unison how beautiful the clothes that did not exist were and how beautiful they were to wear them, and they held a procession to show them naked and swagger through the market, so that the people might come to admire and praise them. Unfortunately, this ridiculous ** was debunked as soon as it came to the people. The "emperor" could not get off the stage, but still had to put on a show, "this parade must be completed", and "therefore he had to put on a more proud look."
This kind of deceitful but extremely stupid ruler will probably exist in any era. Therefore, this fairy tale is also relevant at all times.

The King's New Clothes (Danish: Keiserens NY Klder) is a famous story from Hans Christian Andersen's fairy tale series, first published in 1837. Once upon a time, there was a king who loved to dress up, and he often had to wear new clothes, but none of the city's designers could satisfy him.
One day a foreign merchant told the king that he had brought a most peculiar garment, which had to be seen by a wise man. The king, though he saw nothing, did not want to admit that he was not wise, so he wore it according to the merchant's instructions. Later, he even wore this dress to go on patrol, and as a result, he became the laugh of the countrymen, because he was laughed at because of his nakedness.
Lesson Significance This story teaches people that they should not die and refuse to admit their mistakes because of the [face] relationship, if they insist on not admitting their mistakes and refusing to reflect, they will ultimately suffer themselves. On the other hand, it also teaches people to be honest and not to be hypocritical, but to covet gorgeous appearances.
