The Book of the Later Han Dynasty is a chronicle of the history of the Eastern Han Dynasty compiled by Fan Ye, a historian of the Liu and Song dynasties of the Southern Dynasty in China. Together with the "Historical Records", "Hanshu" and "Three Kingdoms", it is called the "first four histories".
The book is divided into ten periods, eighty biographies and eight chronicles (Sima Biao's continuation), the whole book mainly describes the first year of Emperor Guangwu of the Han Dynasty (25 AD) of the Eastern Han Dynasty, down to the 25th year of Emperor Jian'an of the Han Dynasty (220 AD), a total of 195 years of historical events.
The seven new biographies set up by Fan Ye, except for the "Biography of the Party", have a relatively large impact on later historians. Most of the biographies were followed by later historians. From the perspective of historical compilation, although Fan Ye's Book of the Later Han Dynasty is not as good as Sima Qian's Historical Records, it does not have the grand rules for establishing a chronicle style of historical books, nor does it set an example of establishing a chronicle of dynastic history like Ban Gu's Book of Han.
However, it has made great contributions to the improvement of the history of the chronicles. This is mainly manifested in the setting of class transmissions.

The Book of Han is rigorous, practical, and sketchy in its descriptions of the characters. "Historical Records" pays attention to the portrayal of characters, uses imagination and romanticism, and adds many detailed descriptions and fictional storylines to make the characters more vivid.
-
The Book of Han is modeled on the "Historical Records" in style, changing "book" to "zhi", canceling "family", and merging it into "biography". Moreover, the Hanshu is different from the Records of the Historians in that it is an official document written by order, which is very different from the Records of the Historians in terms of democracy and critical spirit. Although a large number of entries in the Book of Han come directly from the "Historical Records", Ban Gu has rewritten a large number of "Taishi Gongshu" in the "Biography".
Compared with the "Historical Records", the "Book of Han" pays more attention to the whole, and the evaluation pays more attention to the major sections.

The historical records are written by Sima Qian, which describes the history from the Three Emperors and Five Emperors to Emperor Wu of the Western Han Dynasty. The Book of Han was written by Ban Gu, which mainly describes the history from Emperor Wu of the Western Han Dynasty to the Eastern Han Dynasty, which complements each other.

What is the difference between the Records of the Historians and the Book of Han?
Correct answer: The "Records of the Historians" is a general history of nearly 3,000 years from the beginning of the Three Emperors and Five Emperors to the Han Dynasty, and the "Book of Han" is a history of the Han Dynasty, which records more than 200 years of history. To put it simply, one is a general history, and the other is a dynastic history.
