Yuan Dexiu said: "I have promised him, and I can't break the agreement." If there is any involvement, I should bear the responsibility and not implicate others.

The next day, the thief returned with the tiger's carcass, and the whole county lamented about it.

All the money that Dexiu got as an official was subsidized to the helpless elderly and children. In the years of famine, he sometimes did not burn out the cooking for a day, but just happily played the piano to entertain himself. Yuan Dexiu died in the thirteenth year of Tianbao, and there were only pillows, shoes, and scoops of water at home.

Yuan Dexiu (c. 695-c. 754), also known as Zizhi, was a native of Henan (now Luoyang City, Henan) in the Tang Dynasty, lived in Taiyuan (now Taiyuan City, Shanxi Province), and later moved to Luhun, Henan (now Song County, Henan), and was a poet of the Tang Dynasty. He is a descendant of Emperor Sun Changshan Wang Zun of Zhaocheng of the Later Wei Dynasty, Xianbei clan, originally surnamed Tuoba, and the surname was changed to Yuan when Emperor Xiaowen of the Northern Wei Dynasty reformed.
