The softwaredistribution folder in the windows directory is mainly used to store the changelog and related patches of Windows update. Theoretically, it can be deleted.

P.S. Since Windows will create a corresponding record folder on the hard disk when Windows update, the folder is C: Windows SoftwareDistribution, and write the corresponding upgrade information to the registry, if there is an error in the upgrade, the registry will also record the error information accordingly.

And automatically access the softwaredistribution directory in each Windows Date, so that if there is a sequential upgrade error, it will cause repeated errors in the future, resulting in repeated upgrade failures. Since the system automatically calls softwaredistribution in normal mode, it cannot be renamed or deleted in normal mode. After entering the safe mode modification, Windows Update again, the system cannot find the folder, the directory will be automatically rebuilt, and the system upgrade information will be scanned again, so that the upgrade can be successful!

    Run, enter cmd

Then type net stop wuauserv and rename the software distribution folder.

Go back to the command window and type net start wuauserv and you're good to go. The reason it can't be renamed is because the folder is occupied by the Windows system auto-update service, thank you.

You find the file in C: Windows System32, run it as administrator, and then type net stop wuauserv as you did from the first step, then type %windir%, and then the cmd window does not close, then rename the folder softwaredistribution to sdold, and finally type net start wuauserv, and then you can install it. Because I'm like you, too, had this problem.,I used it for one night tonight.。。
